Ok cool, thanks for that Martin.

And I’ll wait for Chris to hopefully respond also.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy.

I agree with what Rob has said above.

It is quite hard to judge what one is getting when purchasing the presets based on listening to the demos when the demos may or may not be a true representation of the sounds you are actually guna get.

All that said, the presets are excellent.

I too didn’t think it sounded like the video. I loved the sound of the vid, but I only opened the preset once…

If you bounce to audio, from memory you can split the cymbals up (route them separately as it were).

    Hey,

Are you able to please spell out why you don’t like it? Is it just not suited to the style of music you make?

I think the demos sound great, and absolutely perfect for a musical project I have coming up. Just interested in what your experience was…

I don’t have the rock songs midi yet, but I do have some groove monkee stuff (including the one you mention) and I find it unuseable, on account of how loosely it is played. I don’t mean ‘it hasn’t been quantized’ kinda loose (I wouldn’t wanna be using quantized midi), I genuinely think it is just too sloppy to be useful. Just my opinion of course, so no body jump on me!

The Toontrack midi packs I have are by far the best midi I have used. I found the Songwriters Pack to be great btw!

I think Groove Monkee have a free pack you can get off their site which is like a taster of the different products they have – I would suggest trying that to help make your decision.

    Jeremy.

I agree with icebox too. The format of the Songwriter packs has been something of a revelation for me – I have found them to be by-far the most useful midi I have used by any company. This is due to the length of the grooves in particular, as well as having the different variations to choose from.

I have tried midi packs from other companies, but even if you find a groove that fits your musical vision, if it’s only one bar long it is kinda useless as far as I’m concerned. Just looping one bar over and over for a whole song doesn’t exactly sound real.

So yeah, more packs in the same format as the Songwriter’s midi packs would be great!

    Cheers,
    Jeremy.

Looking for some tips on EQ could be useful, but also just looking for general tips on mixing would be where I would start.

Although there are different techniques, many people would start by getting a balance with the drums and then raising the faders on the other instruments relative to the drums. From your description it sounds like you may be trying to do the reverse. Try it out for yourself and see if it helps. DFH is pre-processed to be mix-ready, so it shouldn’t require a huge amount of extra processing. This really sounds like more of a balance issue to me.

If you use Google you will find a huge amount of info on mixing including equing.

I think that’s a good idea about the preset management, having all presets in one place. Not sure on the logistics of doing this but +1 for this suggestion.

    Hi,

I too have requested more half-time grooves in the past. So +1

Are you using Superior Drummer or EZDrummer?

You are correct that EQ would be the way to go. In Superior Drummer, you can use the internal EQ on the direct channels for the kick drum to boost the bass. You might want to also reduce the volume of the kick in the room mics to better hear the changes you make (eq wise) to the kick’s direct mics.

If you are using EZDrummer I believe it doesn’t have an internal EQ, so you could send the kick to it’s own channel in your Host (Logic, Protools etc) and EQ it there. You could try boosting around 80Hz. Otherwise just search appropriate frequencies to boost in Google – there is a LOT of info out there.

Wow, that’s weird – they always work for me.

Do you notice similar behavior from other companies emails, or only Toontrack?
