Are you using Superior Drummer or EZDrummer?

You are correct that EQ would be the way to go. In Superior Drummer, you can use the internal EQ on the direct channels for the kick drum to boost the bass. You might want to also reduce the volume of the kick in the room mics to better hear the changes you make (eq wise) to the kick’s direct mics.

If you are using EZDrummer I believe it doesn’t have an internal EQ, so you could send the kick to it’s own channel in your Host (Logic, Protools etc) and EQ it there. You could try boosting around 80Hz. Otherwise just search appropriate frequencies to boost in Google – there is a LOT of info out there.
