Thanks for the reply – I just had a Samsung SSD installed yesterday, projects take the same amount of time to load up, but things sound a little ‘cleaner’ and have more snap to them. Maybe that’s just my mind trying to justify what I spent…
For what it’s worth, I just purchased the upgrade yesterday, and am having the exact same result as you are Paul.
I second REAPER. I find it pretty easy to navigate and as mentioned, free to evaluate.
Hey there
I have all three of the Library of the Extreme midi packs, they are by far the best MIDI I have found for ANY death/extreme metal songwriting. In many of my compositions I do make seamless transitions between blast beats and double kick patterns. My suggestion would be to purchase at least the Death and Thrash packs as well as the Blasts and Fills pack. I can’t remember at the moment if there are any actual blast beats in the Death and Thrash pack however. There are many different blast patterns in the B and F pack, which will really liven up your compositions. Lastly, you can use two kick drums in all of these instances. You can use as small or large of a kit as your RAM will allow. I use two kick drums for all of my stuff, sounds fantastic. Hope this helps.
I agree with the post above. If you haven’t picked up the Library of the Extreme 2 pack, I would suggest that too. There are some odd skank beats that you may be able to work with… especially if it’s just a matter of moving some kicks around.
I use REAPER as well, and am a complete ‘learn as you go’ guy when it comes to recording. Luckily, REAPER is pretty user-friendly and I am doing fine with it so far.
You can also download it free off their website. I chose to pay the small fee and get rid of the ‘nag screen’ on startup. Other than that, it is the full version.
Thanks for the post.
I’ve read in the other forums here that there is some mastering and ‘sweetening’ done to audio examples. The drum sounds/tones are the same in the preset pack, but there is definitely some things added after the fact in the clip. I have EZMix and several other non-Toontrack plugs, and am looking for somewhere to start. I’ve added the basic mastering plugs and other things, but still can’t get close to the clarity and punch in that mix posted.
Thanks again!
… I’d be all over that too! Really like the fact that the newest releases have separate MIDI packs.
CANT WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE METAL MONTH RELEASES!
Thanks Rogue… such a good forum here. I’ve never had a question go unanswered here.
Thanks for the hints Rogue.
My PC isn’t connected to the net, so I have all updates and virus software turned off. I just loaded the tune up at 44.1k and 24 bit, using EZDrummer and the DFH kit, the bar stopped (loaded fully) at 237mb, loaded up in about ten seconds. I then loaded the same song (which I have already converted into SD) using The Metal Foundry, full ‘Snotlip’ kit (with a few drum substitutions) at 192k, 64 bit, loaded 1374mb in about ten seconds as well, maybe quicker. Does this sample number seem proper at 64 bit? I know I’ve loaded up the Sneap preset pack, using the Exodus/Atrocity preset and I believe it was closer to 4100mb of samples (full kit).
Thanks again…!
Figured it had something to do with that. Another question, is it normal for the bar at the bottom right corner (the one that shows how many samples have been loaded) to not be filled up completely – again, it loaded 741mb of samples, but the bar wasn’t completely filled up yet.
Thanks again for the info!!!
Hey there
I have updated everything to their latest versions and if I understand you correctly (sorry for my ignorance) the sample rate is 192000, up from the 44.1 that I was using before I upgraded to 64 bit: thanks again!
Yes I am – Version 1.2.1 and it does state 64 bit. I am also loading Drumkit from Hell, should have mentioned that before. I thought this was odd, especially the loading time, as I can load up a kit in SD (using Metal Foundry with an Andy Sneap preset) in under 30 seconds.
Thanks again!
