If you want a snare at a special location there is always the possibility to use the record function to put snares (or other drums) where ever desired :) If you after that want to quantize what you just recorded – cut the MIDI block around the snare hit(s) you want to quantize, go into Edit Play Style on the cut block, right click on the snare and choose Quantize in the menu.

Another option is to use Tap2Find to look for a snare pattern you want. If you find a file that contains the snare pattern you are looking for, right click on that file and chose Copy, then right click the block you want to change and choose Paste/Snare. If you can’t find a file with the exact pattern you where looking for you can instead right click the Tap2Find MIDI file, choose Copy and paste that snare onto the block on the track.

I am going to leave the suggestion of packs for someone else to answer – but remember that you can use the “Use Web Shop MIDI” button (at the top of the Search tab) to browse the different MIDI packs that are available in our web shop :)

“What I am trying to achieve; I want to match a groove exactly to the rhythm of my guitar riff. There are no grooves in the library which come close (even after using the track editor function) so I would like to create a whole new groove from scratch.”

Something you can try to do is to first tap2find for a kick pattern that you feel matches what you are looking for. Take that MIDI grove and place it on the track. Then tap2find for a snare pattern that you are after. Right click on the one that you feel is the best, choose “Copy”, then right click on the block on track and select “Paste/Snare”. Continue to add hi-hat or other parts that you want to have on the MIDI block.

When you’re using Tap2Find to look for the snare for example, and you can’t find anything that matches – right click the Tap2Find MIDI file, select “copy” and then you can paste that onto the MIDI block on the track. Finish, if you want to, by adding subtle changes with amount to make it a bit more “alive”. This is a technique I often use to get beats to sound like the beat I am after Wink

And remember, if there’s something you want to have done exactly in a precise way like you want it to be – you can fix that part in your DAW host, and then drag into EZdrummer to further edit the file….

    Good luck!

You can see the MIDI that is shuffle by selecting “Shuffle” in the Play Style column in the filters. In the same manner, you can see the MIDI that is swing by selecting “Swing” under the Type column. Too see all MIDI that included in each of these tags, remove the file from Tap2Find.

It seems like you need some help from our support team to solve this. Go to this link: http://www.toontrack.com/faq/installing-ezdrummer-2-mac/ and click the “Contact Support” button on the bottom of the page and they should be able to help you!

When you open up EZdrummer 2 as a stand alone application, the interface should be exactly the same as when you run EZdrummer 2 in a host. So Tap2Find is in the same place – in the Search tab.

Thanks for the feedback! We will see what we can do about the tap2find sync in future updates, we have discussed it before and it hasn’t been done yet because of some technical issues.

EZdrummer 2 should follow the exact tempo of your host as long as you have “Follow Host” enabled (the button beside the tempo and beat display). If it is, it might be a bug that’s causing unsync.

The Ezdrummer.app is actually the standalone version for EZdrummer 2

So you get a sound from the drums when you press them in tap2find but no click? Can you try to run Tap2Find in standalone mode to see if it works there (you start EZdrummer 2 as it’s own application)?

    1. Unfortunately you can’t control Cubase (or any other host that I am aware of) from a plugin, which means that EZdrummer 2 can’t control the loop area for the host, and it can’t start and stop Cubase’s play back. You have to control this from Cubase.

    2. Did you see if there was a “Hi-Hat” and a “Hi-Hat Pedal” in the Paste menu to the block? If that’s the case, paste them both. If there’s only one and it won’t work by pasting it, it might be a bug that we should look into.

You can try to add less drum parts into the the tap2find. If you, for example, are looking for a special kick pattern, try just to tap that kick pattern and leave out hi-hat, snare etc. This will increase your matching % for the kick part. Try to use filters to further narrow down your results. Generally, I find it that tap2find finds what I look for, I often tap in kick and snare, but if you are searching for complex patterns – my suggestion might help you out!

Another tip: if you find the kick pattern that you like but it doesn’t have the snare you look for, use the MIDI that contains the kick pattern you want, then use tap2find to find the snare pattern. Right click on the file that has the snare pattern you want, choose copy and paste it onto the kick MIDI pattern. You can also copy the MIDI you created to tap2find and paste parts from it to MIDI blocks on your track.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, you can do that! Just be sure to check that you don’t play MIDI both from the host track and EZdrummer 2’s track on the same time – things can sound a bit messy in that case :)

Actually, you have to set the time signature manually even if you are in a host, since the only thing the host can “tell” EZdrummer is the tempo (so unfortunately we can’t automatically set it for you).

Can you access it by manually going to EZdrummer Help section and scrolling to your post? This forum has recently been updated to a new one and we are constantly trying to fix bugs etc. but as in your case – we have some more bugs to fix!

Here is the reply I wrote to you on your post:

You have to do this in the Edit Play Style area. Double click on a MIDI block that you have placed on the track and you will go into Edit Play Style. There you can add percussion and a lot of other editing of the MIDI. If you select multiple blocks you can edit them all at once (by right clicking one of the selected blocks and choosing Edit Play Style from the menu). You can also access it by pressing the little arrow on the top left area of the block :)

    Good luck!
