I have to admit I have never before owned any software that would not allow me to upgrade from the previous version. Every software I’ve ever had allowed an upgrade path from the previous version, especially if the new version is “backward compatible” with the old version. One example I can think of is Windows. You can always upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but there is no upgrade path from Windows 95 to Windows 7 or Windows 10.

I also have to admit that if I had not seen the upgrade emails before the upgrade expired I probably would not continue with TT software. I would most likely be looking for new drum software. I would probably be just as pissed as the other customers who missed the deadline. The more I think about it the more I realize how badly this approach sucks.

This is straight BS. I bought SD2 from guitar center only a week before the upgrade to SD3 ended. I wasn’t aware of the new SD3 at the time I purchased SD2 then went on the Toontracks website a couple weeks later to check out the support forum and theres SD3. You cant take software back after its been open so I got completely screwed after shelling out the cash for SD2 I definitely didn’t have the funds to shell out for the full priced version of SD3. If they are not going to offer the upgrade, I’m moving on to Steven Slate Drums 5 for $149. This is so unfair and just unethical.

The man has a very very good point. It is very unfair to allow some retailer to sell SD2 just a few days or hours before the SD3 Upgrade expires, and the customer has no clue that there even is an upgrade? And the retailer doesn’t tell them there is an upgrade? Surely someone from Toontrack can see the injustice in that situation?

Maybe it would be better for Toontrack to make the upgrade to SD3 expire on Dec 31 OR 1 year after your purchase date for SD2, whichever comes later. At least make the upgrade price available to people who purchased SD2 within 30 or 60 days of the upgrade expiration date, something like that.

I think I see the problem. I didn’t notice that my existing project is opening with an SD2 plugin. Custom Shop EZX requires SD3.

If I remove the SD2 instance and insert an SD3 instance then the Custom Shop sounds and grooves load up just fine.

I think we figured it out. THANKS!

    Hi,

which version number is displayed in the lower left corner in SD3 when you open the plugin in Reaper?

    BR,

    John

Not at the computer at the moment, but as soon as I get back there I’ll check. I just upgraded and installed SD3 last month, maybe middle of December, so I would think it’s the latest version. I’ll report back here soon.

    Hi,

The Custom Shop EZX works in EZdrummer 2 or Superior Drummer 3.

Unfortunately the EZdrummer Lite Upgrade does not work in your case. It is for owners of the limited Lite version.

In this case, either the full version of EZdrummer 2 or Superior Drummer 3 would be the way to go.

Ok, Thanks. I have SD3 installed and working, but when I open up the SD plugin in my DAW (Reaper) a message pops up saying that Custom Shop EZX is being excluded because I don’t have EZD2. So how do I get Custom Shop to authorize on my machine so I can use it in SD3? It already shows as registered and authorized in TT Product Manager.

So soundchaser59 you are saying Toontrack are acting like the much hated Microsoft?
    That is exactly our point.

That’s your twist, not mine. If you can’t grasp the reasons behind it, then nothing anyone says will make sense to you. Go learn programming and then come back and tell us all how easy it is to maintain endless versions and upgrades of your software.

I have never in my life seen a software company end an upgrade program for any reason, ever, period ,end of story.

Get out much? That is simply not true at all. You have never used any software that has the name “Microsoft” on it? Do you really believe that Microsoft should still offer an upgrade path for Office Pro 98 to upgrade to Office 2013? Or an upgrade path for Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 10? Have you ever been a programmer? Do you have any idea what an impossible task it would be, even for Microsoft, to offer endless upgrades for every version of software? If you have never been a programmer then you have no clue what it takes to program software like Superior Drummer, let alone what it takes to make old versions upgradeable and compatible with new versions. Your claim is not realistic at all. Wake up and join the real world.

Some of you people are just amazing with these shallow rants and me, me, me points of view. Break out of your shell and expand your horizons. OMG!
