I was mistaken, the MIDI is not “reverse mapped” when dragged from Superior Drummer 3 to a DAW, so you are correct in that nothing happens in that scenario. So all transforms are made when MIDI is going in to SD3 – either by having MIDI in the DAW, or dragging a MIDI file in to SD3.

    > In there you can transpose the selected blocks to another key. So that means that for that section, the circle of fifths tool will not have the key at the top? I can still use it for figuring out chords though, right?

Exactly, it will rotate so the selected key for the changed block(s) will be on top.

Do any other features rely on the ‘stated key’ to function properly, or does it literally just orientate the circle of fifths tool? For instance, if I transpose a section as suggested, and then apply the ‘use browser midi’ setting to it, will EZKeys be drawing notes from the stated key, or the transposed key that the section is now in?

Changing key for some blocks will set the circle of fifths to show the key on top. Some other subtle changes are also applied, such as it can make certain notes fit better into the selected key. When you use Use Browser MIDI it will play the chord that printed on the track, disregarding the main key of that song.

Also, is there any difference between ‘use browser midi’ and ‘copy -> paste midi’?

Basically no. User Browser MIDI is just a quick way to test several sequential grooves from the browser, instead of having to click copy, then paste, every time!

    > We can use it to update current software

So ToonTrack are still interested in applying bug fixes and small improvements to EZD2 and EZKeys?

Yes! We announce when we stop developing software, as we did with Superior Drummer 2 when Superior Drummer 3 came out 🙂

When I start calibration, the text on the right still says it is listening for hi-hat pedal movement as if nothing is happening at all.

Does it work if you select CC4 on the left column, then run the calibration? The CC that’s selected in the left column is what will be listened too…

If changing the internal MIDI mapping doesn’t playback Toontrack MIDI correctly, what would its use be? Why would someone change the internal MIDI mapping if it plays everything incorrectly?

Say you add another kick, and you want that to always be the default kick. Then you can set it to note 36, and change the original kick to any other note. Now most MIDI will use the new kick instead (since 36 is the standard note for kicks). Just one example of why you could use the internal MIDI.

Secondly, do you have a suggestion for accomplishing what I’m looking to accomplish? I’d like all MIDI to match my custom mapping. I understand how MIDI In mapping works. I understand how to keep that mapping when I drag a recorded pattern out from the song track. But I do not know how to get Toontrack MIDI to match that mapping. A typical scenario for this need would be that I recorded a pattern in my DAW, but I want to replace the hats & ride with Toontrack patterns. What would be an efficient way to do this?

If you enable the MIDI IN mapping, and first drag a Toontrack MIDI file to the Song Track then drag it to your DAW, it will be reverse-mapped (so it fits the current MIDI IN mapping).

    • You may be able to drag the MIDI straight to the DAW from the Grooves tab and get it reverse MIDI mapped, I’m not sure and it’s hard to check since I am on vacation at the moment 🙂

The sliders in the Grid Editor are “applied” when the notes are deselected, meaning that if you select notes, change Randomize, deselect the notes and select them again – the Randomize slider will be set to 0 (default position). The notes doesn’t have a “memory” of the different controllers.

This is something we have discussed, and have written it up as a feature request – that the notes should remember the values for the different controllers.

You can also have two tracks in your DAW, and load EZkeys to each one. In the first instance, load Default and have the MIDI for bar 1-9.

On the second instance, place the MIDI for bar 9 -16 and select “Chorus Grand”.

By doing this you don’t have to use MIDI messages to change presets, which can be a hassle. Further, by splitting up EZkeys to two tracks, you can mix the sounds for Default and Chorus Grand separately.

The downside of having two tracks is that more RAM will be used.

Can you search the hard drive to see where EZdrummer.component has been installed? The standard location is Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > Components.

Go to the Settings menu and select Audio/MIDI setup. Select the audio interface that’s connected to your speakers.

Right click the stacked instrument, and select More > Route Instrument Microphones to see where the stacked instrument is sending its audio. Connect the main mic to the Kick mixer channel and the stack option should be visible.

In Menu > Settings > Sound Engine you can disable the part of the engine that makes alterations to the hits, to make them sound more humanly played (such as alteration, which you describe). Turn the Humanize off to stop it, to try it. Note that this will make the kits sound more robotic, with machine gun effects as a result.

If you check the info about EZdrummer 2 > installation in the Product Manager, does it say that it’s completely installed? In the installation process it’s possible to chose not to install the AU plugin.

Hi, What is the best way to move the midi completed song from ez drummer2 to studio one 4.5.

You can either just drag the MIDI from EZdrummer 2 to Studio One, or bounce the audio from EZdrummer 2 (in the track menu found in the right top corner of the song track, Track > Export Song as Wave File…)

For me, I would really like to be able to use EZD in full screen mode and to be able to manually adjust the size as required like normal windows.

This is unfortunately not possible, at least not without rewriting the entire software base, since the platform we used back then doesn’t support resizing. Superior Drummer 3, and all future software, will use a new platform, where resizing, scaling, etc., is a part of it.

Also an option to “Select All and Mute” in one step rather than two (or four including clicking menu twice)

Are you referring to to muting all Song Parts on the song track? In that case it’s easier to just deselect Follow Host, and EZdrummer 2 won’t play the Song Parts when you play the DAW.

it would be nice to deselect, say, the cymbals and for them to remain deselected even if I switch to another kit to listen to.

I’ll take a note of this as a feature request.

And should the kit displayed in Big Rock Drums remain the green glitter kit no matter what make of drum I choose i.e. Gretsch, Camco or Ludwig?

EZdrummer 2 has static graphics, meaning that the drums will look the same no matter what instrument you load to that position. Superior Drummer 3 on the other hand, has dynamic graphics which updates after an instrument change.
