If you are willing to sell “ROOT SDX: BRUSHES, RODS & MALLETS” for a discounted price, please let me know, I paid considerably less than $90 for the sticks SDX.

I already got emails and newsletters from developers who released an Apple-Silicon-ready version of their plugin.

That being said, there is a translation stage happening when you install your software on an Apple-silicon Mac, so that’s much more efficient than running translations on-the-fly. Apple specifically mentioned compatibility and performance of intel-based software on an Apple-silicon Mac in their WWDC sessions. My guess is that most plugins will work just fine, but the ones which are optimised might perform a little better.

Apple mentioned Sound/audio processing units on their chips. Most likely software that takes advantage of this would perform better, however maybe this is already adressed in the core-audio framework in their new SDK’s. I’m not a developer so this is mostly guesswork.

One thing to be more concerned about is third party hardware, if any of your hardware requires drivers, these drivers will have to be recompiled and since a lot of hardware-companies (i.e. Roland) aren’t big on updates, this might be an issue. To make it even more interesting, Apple is actively discouraging kernel-extentions so this will have to work in a different manner (I’m hazy on the details, I’m sorry).

“One risks many cuts trying to ride the bleeding edge. Give it time.” This is great advise.

I’m not quite sure I understand the problem. Where is this midi coming from? Could you ellaborate on your import/exporting process?
Another scenario might be that you have a mismatch in terms of note-mapping from samples. Generic/logic generated midi might not work out of the box so be sure to select “logic” from the midi menu inside SD3.

Maybe this helps: The best way to get midi from logic directly into any toontrack product is hitting record inside the plugin while you have the midi loaded on your track. You won’t have to export/import midi again while working inside your DAW.

Thanks @ wolfereeno for sharing your experience, I was considering the decades SDX just for jazz. I agree with your comments on the price of the Roots SDX, however you can get the roots SDX at a discount now at drum-tec.  The Jazz EZX sounds pretty fine (still limited in terms of kit pieces) if you don’t want/need to tweak your sound.

    For what it’s worth:

I was wondering the same thing about having a trail from SD3. Maybe because the download is so big, toontrack doesn’t allow for it. Still, having a limited SD3 trail would have been great, especially for edrummers.

You can easily remap your input “notes” to different sounds, but most likely you won’t need to because SD3 has a great triggering engine with a ton of presets for a lot of different hardware. Those presets need very little adjustment.

The ADDING MORE PIECES TO A KIT  point is a valid one, unfortunately SD3 doesn’t allow you to easily add more sounds or kit pieces. It’s kind of ridiculous, really.

I suggest trying a preset like the TD-30 and try if it works
