Hi,
I wouldn’t say there is something that needs to be “fixed”.
The plug-in needs to tell the host how its outputs are configured upon scanning/loading, i.e. nothing that can be changed on-the-fly.
If, instead of the 16 Stereo channels broadcasted to the host, were a set number of Mono outputs as well, how would you propose they would be distributed? 10 Stereo + 12 Mono channels? 6 Stereo + 20 Mono channels?Since no SDX or EZX has exactly the same setup in terms of microphones, having a set number of Mono outputs would be more limiting and we would see posts with questions like: “How do I combine 2 Mono outputs to a Stereo output?”
If memory serves me, in the very early days, with the first Superior Drummer plug-in, this became very clear when the second library was released (the 1st iteration of Custom & Vintage), since you had to load the plug-in and re-configure, close it and re-start your host and re-scan the plug-in.The best way is as user Jord suggests; to set up a Template in your host and with Project files in SD3.
Regarding the Pro Tools routing and Kicks in the post above: you do not need to have your Kick channel(s) routed to output 1/2. You can have any Stereo microphone output on the Stereo Instrument Track where SD3 is inserted, e.g. the AMB.BR,

Sounds like there’s no good way to address this with the way SD3 has been recorded & designed along the way. What a competitor did was keep the recording of libraries consistent. This obviously would’ve restricted the producers of the different SDXs though.
Personally I find SD3 great less the disconnect between the MIDI in & out mappings. Though I’ve purchased a handful of EZXs, the all-stereo routing and inconsistencies in SDXs has curbed my purchases of them. Yet I still have all the sounds I need between the drum VIs I have. So all is well.

I have tried to resolve the issue and am unable to. The only thing I could suggest is remapping in the 3rd party drum VI and if that is not possible try contacting Toontrack Support.

I sometimes use MIDI out to other drum VIs. I...I sometimes use MIDI out to other drum VIs. I use Studio One’s Chorder on the 3rd party drum VI to translate SD3’s output. (I still wish SD3 would sync its MIDI in and out.)
Playing patterns triggers the 3rd party drum VI as expected. But when I add patterns to the Song Track, the mapping is not the same. On something I’m working on now, the hats & cymbals are off, triggering toms. The kick and snare trigger as expected. There have been other times where everything is off and nothing is triggered as expected.
But when I drag the MIDI to the 3rd party drum VI track in my DAW, everything is fine again. Great, but it removes my favorite SD3 feature from the equation; the Song Track and Edit Play Style.
What could be happening to the MIDI output between the pattern and Song Track? Might there be a setting I inadvertently changed?

Operating system: macOS Mojave (10.14)Hi there,
Sorry for the delay, mountain biking season on the west coast…. I don’t have a solution, at least not yet, but I have replicated the issue…. it seems that when a song is played from the SD3 song track Chorder is for some reason bypassed. I am testing with SD3 and Presonus Impact.
Will try mucking about with it tomorrow….

I was just programming some percussion and thought of this thread. I can only guess the related sound expansions haven’t sold well, so they feel no need to provide MIDI packs.
It’s a shame. Orchestral Percussion is a great sounding, unique instrument. I love that both I & II are set up like typical drum VIs, allowing me to program all on one track, yet still route and mix individually.

Hi there,
Just trying to replicate the issue. So want to get it right.
When you preview a groove from the groove browser in SD3, the MIDI goes via Chorder in Studio One to another drum VI and sounds proper.
When you take the same groove and drag it to a song track in SD3, the instruments in the other drum VI do not trigger properly. Yes?

No MIDI In / edrum preset applied.
I haven’t changed any mappings on the main page that I’m aware of. Is there a way to reinstate default settings just in case?
I do have MIDI Out selected and using it as the input on the desired track.

Alexander,
Thanks for responding. I will look into MIDIPlayer X. It does sound very useful.
But I really wish one of the mods would reply with a solution. Other than this fiasco, I was OK with the star method. Or maybe I had just gotten used to it, because no, it’s not a great way to organize the MIDI browser.

Funny this popped up. This was just getting on my nerves again.
@Bear-Faced Cow, @Henrik, anyone…
There seems to be implications that I can drag & drop from SD3 and keep my user MIDI In mapping. I’d really appreciate if someone could tell me how.
Thanks!
Can you explain what you want to accomplish here? I think it’s easier for me (or anyone else) to answer if it’s possible to achieve what you want to, instead of me trying to explain how the entire handling of MIDI is done in SD3 🙂
For example, write something like:
- Drag in a MIDI file, where the kick is on note 38
- Change something so that imported MIDI file plays back correctly
- Drag the MIDI file to Logic
- Will the MIDI file play the the kick correctly?
Any improvements on this?
And why does leaving the custom midi-in mapping active effect the mapping when dragged out? Is there any science to this? Maybe I could create a midi-in map that creates the midi drag-out mapping I want.
Lastly, I’ve set up Studio One’s Chorder to translate SD3’s midi and use its midi out feature to trigger other drum VIs. Works great when auditioning grooves from the groove library. However, once I drag grooves to the SD3 song track, the mapping changes and no longer triggers my other VIs correctly. What could be causing this?

Though Addictive Drums is not in the same class feature-wise, I wish SD3 would take a couple of cues from it; linked MIDI in/out mapping, and mono outs.
Supposedly, Studio One doesn’t do mono multi-outs from VIs. Yet the mono outputs from the AD2 VI are mono in S1. Copy that code TT!

I have this issue with drum midi from other developers as well; Loop Loft, Addictive Drums 2, BFD, Logic… SD3 must have an issue interpreting something in the files.
I’ve only seen up to 600+ bars. 2,000 must be a record.
I’ve taken the time to fix some that I really want to use. But I think some of the grooves are changed a bit when dragging them to the sequencer. SD3 maps everything to their default once dragged, so putting them back in a folder with another mapping assignment seems to cause slight differences.
These 2 things are some of the few gripes I have; not counting bars of 3rd party midi correctly, and MIDI in & out maps being independent. Toontrack, please address these things. I get that the midi in/out independence is intentional, but give us an option to link them.
