    Thanks Waterboy!

Yeah iTunes – I figured why not eh? I used Tunecore and it only cost $10 to get it up there. What an age we live in.

I really like this davoe. Really good sounding tune. The lead guitar has a real nice “The Edge” vibe. Love it.

Care to share any details on how you got the allaire kit to sound that good? Comps, eq’s etc.

    Thanks asat84!

I’m using the Preset that came with the set – “Black Beauty Big Room” – I think. I didn’t do any changes to the kit that I can remember, except maybe raise the overheads a smidge. I put “http://www.mcdsp.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=40&Itemid=271” from McDSP on the kit channel in Pro Tools. That fattens it up a little. Its just on a stereo instrument channel. I didn’t split the outputs of the kit to auxes.

I love S2! Man this changes everything for the guy at home!

    ☺ Thanks mfefc!

Sure – funny thing about why it sounds kinda “The Edgey”…… I was mucking about on the Vetta II Combo, trying to make a patch for the U2 song “All I want is you”, and using a strat came up with this patch. I have a Carvin Bolt Plus with a H-S-H config that I plugged in, just to see how the guitar would sound on that patch, and this song just spilled out in about 15 minutes. I basically recorded the rhythm guitar & melody in 2 takes, and I kept thinking, yeah I should redo this with the strat and it’ll sound better. I tried the strat and liked the Carvin better (I was kinda surprised but I just went with the ears instead of the brand). The only thing I redid was the outro which I wrote about a week later.

So it’s a mic’d Vetta II Combo, using the AC30 model, with an e609 on one speaker & an SM57 on the other. I used a DIGIMAX D8 Preamp & went optical ADAT into a Pro Tools 96 i/o. Almost all the effects were from the Vetta (which isn’t the best idea but I did track a DI guitar too to re-amp later if needed). No EQ on the guitar tracks, but I did compress using http://www.mcdsp.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=133&Itemid=271 on the guitar channels.

I’m working up some songs with vocals, but they’re decidedly more rocky than this one. This one is more mellow than what I usually come up with, but it was the easiest to finish since there are no vocals. 🙂
