is it your diagram? or found on the web???
the things i can tell about this are:
it’s for a 3 zones ride on two independant inputs…( if the switch is on the upside of the ride)
first input head on main piezo and edge for the rim sound
second input  bell piezo with the switch tape for rim sound… but it’s phisically impossible to hit  the bell and the edge at the same time so the switch can be used to choke the bell sound…

not necessary to solder two wire on the ceramic part of the main piezo (for the sleeve)  solder it before… it’s easier

for the variable resistance, it’s a 1Mohm to cold on the circuit…
i think 16inche is good for a ride…        or maybe mine must be more dampened… the dampened area is a 16 inche cymbal… there are 2 inches around chere there is no bitumen tape

    for hit hat… 12 or 13 inches

go on http://edrum.spaces.live.com/  it’s my web space… maybe there are explicit pics to understand…  (you will see the variable resistance and a schema of the circuit)

the circuit is keith’s raper’s circuit… all infos are in the edrum workshop

no problem with the old choke switch… just more difficult i think to build it

i have put some variable resistance to adjust sensitivy…
for the moment i have some troubles between bow and edge because 18 inches is very big and the cymbal vibrates a little bit… i have to adjsut some details…

    i will draw a schema…when i will have the time to…
but you will understand with this page http://www.hellfiredrums.com/archives/67
my previous choke were like that… (before hellfire did it) but now with this design it’s easier to do a choke switch

pfozz i love you!!! your design is magic!

    i’m not shure that the alesis i/o can do a 3zone pad…
send me a PM in french because i don’t understand your broken english lol (mine is not good too)

    beau boulot!

(double couche )

    hi all!!!

if it’s for a td20, you have to invert polarity on the MAIN piezo…
in the pfozz wiring diagram, ceramic part is link to the tip of the jack and yellow part, to th sleeve…
with roland module, you have to invert:   ceramic part to the sleeve   and yellow part to the tip…

it’s only for the main piezo!!!
it will work if you don’t invert, but i think you will have better rim detection if you invert the wires…(i think roland invert polarity, so the module can easilly detect if the voltage signal comes from main piezo or rim piezo

    edit 10/04/08 :

i have build today a 16 inches 1 zone crash, with choke switch…  it’s only the mechanical part (no have time to finish today, i only have to put a piezo and it will be ok)
the choke is very simple: aluminium (in your kitchen) double side taped on the bitumen tape  (there is a wire which is in contact with the aluminium)   then, first place mat cut where there is aluminium below   and second place mat bigger than first to cover what you’ve just cut    you have to put aluminium below this second place mat (same technic: double side tape, wire, aluminium)

    the result :

    hi pfozz!

    it’s been a long time!!!!
i have sent you an email for a lot of things… and one question about this thread :
what is the bitumen tape and where can we buy it?

the circuit only works with a piezo/switch input… if your input is physicaly “mono” in your module (input 4  so) there is no solution i think …   have you got the rim when you plug a real dual roland pad (main piezo and membrane switch like a cy5 for example)

look at the jman’s link in the thread… you may got your response…  if i have understood, inputs 5,6,7,8 are splittable in two mono pads, but not input 4.   if you select PD8 you can have rimshot on input4????

(on the td10 you can only choose type of pad too and it’s this choose which determines the input’s type (mono or stereo etc…)

are you sure that your circuit is alright???? maybe a reversed diode,or  the transistor is reversed… i don’t know…  check your circuit to be sure that’s not this problem…
have you selected the good type of pad in your drum brain? i don’t know if it’s possible on a td6 but on the td10 you can choose what kind of pad you want… (if you select a mono pad on your module and play with a dual pad… you will have only the head sound…) i don’t know how work exactly the input into the module(if the jack’s ring is bypassed or bypassed and linked with the sleeve) when you select a mono pad… and it’s not exactly the same problem than yours  but maybe it will be solved it…
