Update: I opened up SD2 and the EX Drummer EX libraries were there. The SD library paths had become unchecked. So I re assigned those and now everything is working. I hadn’t reinstalled the SD2 instrument. I think the gremlins must have come in one night and fixed everything. 🙂

Thanks John, I’m downloading the latest version of SD2 (2.4.0). Do I use that to uninstall and then reinstall? And if so, will it install sounds that I need to move to my SDs sounds folder now located on an external SSD?

The file I downloaded is titled Superior_Preview_MAC_240, is that the right one?
    thanks.

Worked like a charm, thanks John! Ran into another problem though. I moved my EZ Drummer2, EZ Keys and Superior Drummer 2 files to a Toontrack folder on the SSD. EZ Keys and EZDrummer 2 seem to be fine, finding all their sounds and midi files (I think, fingers crossed!). SD2 I was able to reset the path in settings for all my SD2 libraries, but it doesn’t seem to be finding the EZDrummer2 libraries and I don’t see a setting for that? I think I’ve been able to play all those EZDrummer2 libraries in SD2, though SD2 gives them more control. I usually first work in EZDrummer2, then when ready to mix, put in an SD2 and use the same sound set. I think that;s what I;ve been doing? Are they the same libraries, or do I have SD2 versions of the EZDrummer2 libraries perhaps? Anyway I can’t figure out how to get SD2 to find them?

    Thanks!

Understood, thanks. So will there be a whole new lineup of expansion packs? Will there, for example, be a new Funkmasters (or some other name) and new Indie, Jazz, Nashville etc? And will those have some capabilities etc that the originals don’t?

Ok, sounds good thanks Scott. So just to check that I understood correctly from that thread: For current owners of EZ Drummer like myself, the update to EZ Drummer 2 will be $99. All the expansion packs which I have now will work with EX Drummer 2, and will in fact be updated with all the new sounds/capabilities of EZ Drummer 2 expansion packs?

Whoops. No it’s an SD kit. Never mind.

I realize there’s a different approach I was thinking about. Using SD2, opening the EZX kits within SD2, and using the SD2 presets on them. I’m working on a project now that I realize I’m actually doing that in!

Ok thanks. I just took a cursory look around in EZ Drummer and for each kit, I only saw a few presets; Dry, Flat, ambient etc, a few like that. I looked in the Manual to see if I was missing where there are more but didn’t see anything. Is that pretty much it for supplied presets for the various EZ kits? Thanks…

Ah, ok thanks, I’ll watch out for too much compression.

As far as splitting out the drums – I’m sure there’s much to be gained there and I’m barely scratching the surface with what I’m doing, but for the most part I’m really just looking to get the best sounds I can for the writing process, which means, to me anyway, having fewer choices available rather than more, so it doesn’t get in the way of the writing.

Once a song is ready though, it would be nice to be able to make things sound better more easily, and maybe that’s really where EZmix comes in for me. At that point I can spend a bit more time, and learn to split out the drums etc.

Thanks Scott, that does answer it, to a large degree? I guess what I was really asking is ezmix2 not intended to be used along with the producer presets for sd2, and it sounds like it is–if it sounds good etc.

Ah, ok thanks Scott. You snooze you lose…

Thanks Scott. Is there any overlap, or is it all different stuff? And one more question if I could, are the midi packs and more extensive than the mini collections that come with Grand Piano, or roughly equivalent in depth, breadth etc? thanks!
