I’ve done this and it works.
however ( and i’m not in front of Midi keys right now) you have to be carefull where you drop the files in EZB.
Directly over the chord progression is good. any deviation onto the midi line reslts in the midi being reorganised.

Hi AndyCamb,
Glad you figured out the Track renaming – it’s a cool way to play about with things and know where they are.
I don’t believe you can change /add names to the Midi Blocks. Double clicking takes you into midi or style editing. I’m kinda thinking
that would be useful too……but the scope for absolute Captain Carnage on the Midi line is obviously the risk.
You originally also asked “So I could import a midifile from drums on one track and have grooves from the ezbass library playing on another and compare the two?”
Not really no. You can import drum midi but it will just read it and [lay the bass guitar You want drum sounds?….. you have to use your Drum VST .
Hope that helps. You can play away to your hearts content and not worry about ruining anything . Use a combination of Tracks, Control Z or keep saving your file in the file menu.

Thanked by: andycambI use the extra Tracks/s as a scratch pad. You can pull midi down into it, grooves …the lot.. just like track one.
Edit midi on the groove edit page without worrying you’re making changes that you’ve got to unpick to get back to somewhere you were before.
Use it like another page in a note book where you can do all the workings out and then copy the result to your main track.
Also don’t you find when looking for “that” Groove or Midi to complement your song and you come across something that is a WOW! …but not for this song :-(.
I just pull it down into a spare track and change the track name to “good bits and pieces” keep it without losing the focus on what I’m really (should be) looking for. I then go back and get them later.
Where it really works for me it trying out fills you want to place in the song…. always looking for an appropriate but not over the top fill with the bass . I use it in SD3 and EZB…… saves carving up your main Track. Just copy that few bars leading in and out of the song transition and practise away.
hope that helps

Hi Scott,
is this still the case? Can you do any sleuthing with the file name in the upper left hand corner of the grooves?
Mark
I uswed to work those out but now in Cubase 6 the damn track name overwrites that little box.

To JoeyP
It takes a moment to get your head round the mixers in EZD and SD2.
They are not instrument tracks in the mixer they are Mic channels.
When you move a fader up you are not bringing up the Snare. You are are bringing up the Mic that is capturing the snare.
(and indeed all the sounds/bleed that that mic is “hearing”). It just so happens that kit has two mics on the snare (Top and bottom)
Once you get your head round that it all falls into place and using EZD and indeed SD2 becomes more intuitive.
Hope that helps.

AS you’ve dicovered. Endings and Starts are abit “exclusive” to the song you’re composing.
The great thing with the midi is that is a great starting point for you to chop and change (mainly cut last 3 beats of the bar to accomodate the ending you’re after.
Also You will find some of the fills are OTT and if you had a drummer who kicked off like that before each chorus you’d shoot him lol!!!
So what i do is just drag the bar into the song over where i want it and grab the handles on the bar and shorten it…either way. it gets a lot ore realistic that way. (and you keep the drummer!!) there are 1 bar fills and 2 bar fills so all you need to decide is what bit of the fill you like. SNap the bar to Quantise (to grid) helps as you can move it around and it all stays in time.
Hope that helps a little.

Bought EZX’s from Audio Deluxe via download myself. Fast communication and no probs authorising on my registered
Toontrack Page.
Only wish there was a sale on the crossgrade to SD2

Yep …All they said.
Remeber. As a single musician you will need to maybe record/ substitue parts quite a lot. It took me a long time to have the apithany that I’m doing the thinking and recording of maybe six to seven people. I’m entitled to swap and change and be a little indecisive!.
You need , maybe a basic DAW ( a “lite” version will do )
My work flow after getting a chord pattern and melody in my head.
Audition a relatively plain EZ groove. Use it as the click but get it down on the daw.
Lay a scrach guitar and vocal on separate tracks. .
Start to build up and swap out parts as it develops in my head. (remember this is where you are doing the work and thinking of many muscians who would normally contribute ideas and arrangements, so it can ne confusing and a little fristrating)
Everything is in sync with the groove so adding midi or other guitars etc is easy.
Now as the song builds i go back into EZY and see if i can find a more appropriate groove. I also drag down a few fills and overlay them onto the groove. As it all comes together so does my thinking and decision making.
It’s a fun process but like all creative processes a little frustrating too.
The beauty of EZD is that flexibilty to swap, change and add as the music develops.
Just switching a kit or maybe just a particular drum can also make the track come alive further.
Hope that helps
Ronnie
