That seemed to do the trick.  Thanks!

The problem is I did bounce the audio file and while the mixer effects were heard in SD3 they were not heard when imported into the DAW.  Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

As I mentioned above I’m using Digital Performer 11 as my DAW.  Is that what you meant by “lug?”

Also, let me ask, if you can’t “export” mixer effect with midi is there a way that you can export the midi but retain the mixer effects when playing back the midi in the DAW so that the midi can still access the mixer effects in playback?  Is that possible or not?  If so, how?

It just seems as if the SD3 mixer effects are very good.  So, why wouldn’t you want to be able to access them in some capacity in export to a DAW?

Does the bounce allow the mixer effects to be included in the export and if so, how is that done?

Well, I gave it a try and am still running into the same crashes.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

I did what you suggested.  We’ll give it a try.

    Hello,

I’m curious how you set the privacy permissions.  I attempted to do that and was was unable to activate the “+” in the Privacy window.  I even called Apple and talked with a Senior Advisor who admitted she did not how to do so either.  Please le me know the steps you took in doing so.  Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.  I’ve been in touch with VSL/VEP support and Toontrack support.  VEP has crash reports which are sent directly to VEP.  VEP informed me that they have reviewed them and found no issues with VEP.  They said that they would forward copies of the crash reports to Toontrack support for their review.

So far, this still remains a mystery. But the good news is that SD3 does appear to work fine in my DAW when not running in VEP.  So, for the moment, I’ll run SD3 without VEP.  This same issue is happening with IK Multimedia Hammond B-3X.

    Thanks again for your reply!

I’ve tested it in DP alone – without VEP – and so far no problem.  But in VEP there is a problem.

    I’m using Digital Performer 11.

Thanks for all of your great tips!  I’ve got it starting to work.  Next, I’ll look into more of the specific tips mentioned to fine tune it.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your detailed reply.  What I’m simply trying to do is be able to hit a note on my midi keyboard and hear a drum sound.  What are the simple steps to do that?  What I specifically want to do is play a cross sticks sound.  I’m not really expecting to drum a full drum set sound – I’m not a drummer.  I just want to be able to play a simple cross sticks or cymbal sound.  So what are the steps to be able to do that?  Thanks!

Obviously Western trap style drumming is an important and popular type of drumming.  But, like it or not, we are living in an increasingly global world which supports more varied types of drumming and percussion.

Toontrack, EZ Drummer and Superior Drumming are some of the top drumming systems available around the globe right now.  It would be so exciting to see them move into more world sounds for their customers.  I, for one, would eagerly acquire copies!

Thanks so much for your help!  The fog is beginning to clear on this thanks to your help.  I had another related question:

I got the HandSonic because I wanted to add some custom percussion sounds beyond what can be found in grooves.  My background is not in drumming or percussion although I am an avid fan of drumming and percussion.  As you know, the HandSonic has available additional pads and pedals that can be added to the HandSonic some of which can be seen in the video this thread started out with.  Are there any additional pads/pedals you have found to be of value to your work with your HandSonic?  Please let me know if you would recommend any.  Thanks again!

    Hello,

I’m still struggling with how to do these things.  Please bear with me.

    1. “I make a patch on each Handsonic where I make all local sounds to be off.” I’m in the User Kit area of HandSonic.  But, how do you make all local sounds off?
    2. “Assign MIDI notes to each pad.”  How do you assign MIDI notes to each pad?
    3. “Make sure that SD3 is receiving the MDI from your Handsonic device(s) in Audio/MIDI settings of SD3. SD3 receives the MIDI and plays the sounds.”  How and where do you check this?

I already wrote Roland and their response was to install the driver which I already did and:

“After you have the drivers installed, the HPD-20 will appear as a selectable MIDI (or audio) device within the software.
You can then match the MIDI notes for each of the pads to the SD3 note map.
Handsonic HPD-20: Assigning MIDI Note Numbers to the Pads

HPD-20: Default MIDI Note Number Map

Note that by default, the HPD-20 is on MIDI Channel 10, so you’ll want to make sure this channel is set the same in SD3.”

    Please advise.  Thanks again!

I tried doing what you suggested.  What happens is that after removing an element within Edit Play Styles, when I play the clips back in the Superior timeline the element that I removed is gone.  However, when I play the same clips back in my DAW or drag them into my DAW, the removed element returns.  So, the removal only seems to be working when played back in the timeline alone.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!
