Hey thanks for posting this. I watch the videos and thought the drums sound amazing but wondered if they’d sit in a mix in a non-jazz genre. I’m going for that understated but open and natural sound you hear on a Jack Johnson record and Norah Jones (Begin Again or Pick me up off the floor albums).
Don’t happen to have any audio examples of non-jazz beats? 😀
In Grid Editor, there’s a Velocity slider.
I’d love to see an enhancement of this – perhaps a 2 or 3 button slider where you could grab the bottom slider and pull up the lower velocity hits (or visa versa where you grab the top slider and pull the louder hits down.
There are times where this midi compression is the most useful (natural) way of evening out a performance, but it may be the quiet hits are sitting right but the loud hits area bit much (or visa versa). This would be a simple way of adjusting the performance for the right balance.
Indeed this def works. The only thing to note is the different kits in logic drummer can map differently. You can remap to what you need to once you’ve got the performance how you like it, convert it to midi and move the notes.
Hands down I would pay $1000 for an Eric Valentine expansion pack. His classic late 90s / 2000s era and his latest single mic retro sound.

Thanks so much. From a lot of listening of the demos, the Decades sounds like it might be the most flexible – a good range from natural and open to really driven and fattened. I tend to go for lower velocity with wider dymanics and enhance the bloom with some processing.
Never considered fields of rock – might be better for more hard hitting stuff and like you mentioned, Hansa does sound more modern.
Gosh, now I’m tempted for a bundle – didn’t know about that haha
Really appreciate your responses! Cheers!
