OPG,those are all great options. Being a keyboard player, I mostly use a MIDI keyboard. I also find myself checking out some of the SD3 MIDI grooves and, if I find one that’s kind of close to what I’m looking for, doing some editing to get it exactly the way I want it. I actually did this one time where I found a groove that was almost perfect except for a couple of licks. I ended up changing the part I wrote to fit the groove because the groove rhythm was much cooler!

The only way I can think of off-hand would be to use the velocity controls in the grid editor. You can easily select all of the events in a groove (loop) and raise or lower their relative velocity.

    Easy Peasy.

If SD3 has already located your libraries (which I’m sure it has), you can easily move them to another location if you wish. After doing so, just set the pathway in the SD3 Settings/Libraries/Paths to the new location.

Really, you can put them anywhere you want. SD3 is very flexible in being able to have a separate pathway for each library. Some of my SDX’s were automatically installed into that SL-Superior Drummer 3 folder. However, when I installed the Orchstral SDX it was put outside that folder. I have just let the Toontrack installer decide where to put it. However, if SD3 has already located the new SDX, you can still move it to another location if you wish. After doing so, just set the pathway in the SD3 Settings/Libraries/Paths to the new location. This can be on any available drive. Most ToonTrack stuff works exactly the way that you intuitively think it would and works well. Which is really refreshing in a world where most things take hours to figure out.

Also, you should get the free 3.1.4 update.

If it’s RAM use that you are worried about try using Cache mode. (It’s in the settings area under Performance) Using this will load only the drum samples that are being used in your project. The only caveat is that the first time through playing a song there will be a few clicks and dropouts as the samples are being loaded. But after that, the samples are in RAM and everything plays through perfectly.

    Hope this helps!

View the drum tab (Where you see the kit you have loaded) and make sure that all the instruments are active and not grayed out. If they are grayed out just activate them.

If you own SD3 then you have the SD3 core library. An SDX contains other drum kit(s) along with new MIDI grooves. A MIDI pack is also an option for SD3 and those contain only the MIDI groves but will work with any EZX, SDX, or the core SD3 library. As far as adding new drum sounds from another kit, just remember that any instrument in any kit, be it cymbal, tom, Snare, kick, hi hat, etc. can play any sound in any of your Toontrack libraries. This means that you could assign a cymbal to replace a tom that you are not using. If a drum from another kit sounds different in the kit you have brought it into, it could be that the ambient mics, EQ, reverb, etc. are different in the preset and kit you took it from than the one your are using. But the core drum is the same.

    Dear Toontrackers,

Already having Groove Agent 4 and East-West Prodrummer, I just purchased EZDrummer 2 a few weeks ago and I’m finding myself using it more than either of the other two! I simply love it. Great sound, great flexibility for a product called “EZDrummer”, great expansion packs, and just great ideas on the implementation of features. I know you have plenty more great ideas for EZDrummer 3 but the only thing I really miss in EZD 2 is having separate channels (and therefore, separate outs) for each tom. I do like EQ’ing them separately.

Thanks for a great product. You now have another fan!
