Microsoft Songsmith was designed to do this.
    http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/songsmith/

Sing your melody into Songsmith, tweak it, let it make some chords. Then move those chords over to EZKeys.

I tried it once. It’s a fairly ambitious effort to make something that will derive intelligent chords from a melody. I’ve gone to great lengths to be able to determine my own chords over the years so not terribly useful to me.

How did you get SD without content with just a receipt, and maybe a key? I’d suspect the only SD keys are inside boxes. Are you sure you bought SD?

I’m not positive, because I have the Superior 2.0 disks. There are like 5 or 6 of them.

I don’t think all of that would be a download. Even archived it would probably be something like 20GB or so.

Not a download IMO. Also, it’s been a while since I’ve installed it, but I don’t remember having to unzip from the disks. I think you’re referring to the EZX’s not Superior or SDX’s.

Maybe someone from support can chime in.

I would go back to GC and discuss.

EDIT: If you have the full version of EZKeys, you can drag any MIDI file from the EZKeys UI into your host and then it can be used to drive any VST instrument.

… on a side note, fizbin, I’m not sure why you’d want to ‘hack’ the registry when the program is perfectly capable of handling this for you, and safely so, but I guess it would not be the internet without added ‘wisdom’ for the sake of it. Best to ask first, then disperse information that could get others into trouble 😉

I call it “editing” the registry, not “hacking”, just like you’d edit any configuration. It’s there for a reason. Not sure why people are so frightened of it.

In addition, if you got the path wrong in the registry editing process, EZKeys would still prompt you for the correct location.

Anyway, easiest just to move it and let EZKeys do the work.

I’m sure it’s possible. On a PC, you’d edit the sound path in the registry – > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeToontrackEZkeysSoundPath

What’s the equivalent on a mac?

Another method…just move it and see if EZKeys prompts you for the new path on startup.

Yeah, it will be more useful for those willing to do some editing, and just take from it what you need and add your own chords.

Love the feel on Honky Cat. With the piano laid bare it might become something quite different.

I suppose if they were split up into intro, verse, chorus, bridge they might be more useful.

Froze, like a spontaneous reboot, or just took a long time to become responsive, or the app froze and crashed, computer seemed to freeze, but bounced back after the app crashed?

What folder (path) did you place the MIDI files in?

Also, can you repro the crash or was it a one time thing?

There is a free downloadable demo pack on their site. I did it and it works very well. In fact, it’s a nice lil addition to what I have already. Thanks fizbin, I owe you one!

Got a link to the freebie download? I couldn’t find it.
    Thanks

EDIT: never mind, found it –

The Metal Foundry has some big kicks and modern snares hit pretty damn hard. I’d suspect that Metal Machine, DFH, or Metal Heads might have similar.

Not confusing Nirvana with metal, just sayin’ the drum sounds can be similar, at least with these kits.

I know you’d want to avoid the type of metal kick where you have that bottom EQed out of it with a plastic beater hitting a metal pad (all click) on the head or something like that. Hate that sound.

I get the error too, but that’s a 3rd party site, not toontrack. Maybe just a link redirector, but I get the same error even on the main site –

How’s about I just have the option to click on the chord and type in a new name? I don’t need a fancy wheel.

    F | Fmaj7 | Fm | FmMAJ7 | F7#9b5 | Fdim

It shouldn’t be that difficult to parse any of that.

Anyway, I’d just settle for an easier way to move through the progression and change all the chords.

Yeah, they need to make this easier. It’s a PITA.
