Most users who hasn’t got enough hard drive space buys an external disk to have their samples on 🙂

The current implementation is designed for stacking sounds rather than replacing sounds/building custom drums. You can do it, but it’s not optimized for it (as you say). We have this on our feature request list, but haven’t had the time yet to add it.

However, you can also do it in another way rather than using an existing instrument; you can create a custom instrument with only your own sounds, for example the snare. However, custom instruments can only have 1 articulation, so it works if you have an instrument sampled with audio files for different velocities:

    • Drag an audio file to the snare in the kit
    • In the import popup, select Replace so the original snare is replaced with a new instrument that only has one articulation; the dragged audio file
    • Drag the next articulation and stack it to the hit articulation.
      • Repeat for each articulation you want to stack
    • You can now set the Velocity Gate for each articulation, if you want them to react to different velocities

This has the drawback of not being able to have more articulations, so if you want to add a rimshot sample to the snare you have to add it as a new instrument and set the MIDI mapping to the rimshot note.

Start by copying the sounds folder and letting Product Manager know where the sounds are:

    • Open Product Manager
    • In there, go to: Superior Drummer 3 Library Part 1 – Basic Sound Library
    • Press Show Details
    • Click on Installation Info tab
      • Here you’ll see where the library is currently installed
    • Click the menu, and Show in Finder
      • Now you have the sounds folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3 shown; copy it to your external drive
    • Go to menu mentioned above again, and select Edit Path…
      • Point this path to new location on your external drive.
        • This will let Product Manager to know where you have placed the Superior Drummer 3 library.

    Screenshot-2019-04-02-at-09.38.44

Now you need to set the path so Superior Drummer 3 knows where the sounds are:

    • In Superior Drummer 3, go to Setting/Libraries (as the screenshot you posted above), click the menu on the right side and set the path to your external drive.

After you have checked that the library works from the external drive, you can remove the folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3 from the internal drive

I hope you can follow my guide 🙂

Ah, sorry, I thought you were asking for Superior Drummer 3, which has this MIDI mapping. I’ll add a feature request note for adding Logic Drummer into EZdrummer 2’s presets!

The script I have to switch out drum pieces is available for download here at LogicProHelp website.

There is also a Logic Drummer preset in MIDI In settings page!

The update is on it’s way, but it takes more time than one may guess. It’s much more complex than just fixing the code and posting an update, but we are on it!

The MIDI standard is that a mute should send CC value 127 and a release should send CC value 0.

The problem is that the Nitro kit sends 127 when you mute (as it should) but it doesn’t send 0 when you release it. Superior Drummer 3 has the feature that you can grab a cymbal and then play several mutes in a row, which the Nitro can’t – since it can only mute an already ringing cymbal.

However, we are aware of that lots of users are using this kit and we will release a fix for this in the coming Superior Drummer 3 update. It’s currently in development, but we are working as fast as we can to get it released 🙂

So in Logic, you have MIDI song blocks on the song track of EZdrummer 2, and save a logic project. When you open the Logic project the next time, the MIDI song blocks from the song track of EZdrummer 2 is gone?

Side notes – for you information:

    • When you save a user preset in EZdrummer 2, it will only save the sounds (the drums and the mixer).
      • If you want to save everything (drums, mixer, and song track) in EZdrummer 2, you should save a project (from the Main menu).

It’s a good idea to be able to preview all the instruments directly. We have this feature in the MIDI session (the online MIDI), and a similar feature for instruments would be a useful thing for our users. We have this noted as a feature request, thanks for the input!

The EZkeys software comes with all EZkeys Instruments, so it doesn’t matter which one(s) you buy – the software will be included. Note that EZkeys MIDI will not include the software!

EZdrummer 2 is designed to have a groove to start with, and edit that to taste, rather than starting from the ground up. If you want to start from the ground you should program this in a DAW (like Cubase, Logic, etc) or invest in Superior Drummer 3 – which has its own Grid Editor.

To get musical suggestions, you can tap in the rhythm you want in Tap2Find (or drag a file from the song track to the Tap2Find drop zone) to find similarly played grooves.

If you want to record things using the mouse, but you can’t play that fast, you can lower the tempo of the song so it doesn’t play that fast. However – this is a clumsy way, where it’s difficult to set individual hit velocities, change where individual notes should play, etc.

I also cannot figure out how to undo a note, it seems I have to undo the entire snare and start over.

Do you mean when you have recorded snare notes and you just want to undo the last one? This can’t be done using undo, and it’s designed like this since EZdrummer 2 isn’t mainly designed to create or start building grooves from scratch.

    • However, there’s a workaround:
      • Use the cut tool on the song block and cut out the part where the unwanted snare is.
      • Double click the song block, in Edit Play Style right click the snare and select Remove MIDI

To cut parts and edit the MIDI is the way to alter certain small parts of the song.

Please reply back here with further questions you may have! Nice to have a new user onboard 🙂

It’s there in EZdrummer 2 because it has no Search for Instruments area, this is the only way to change instruments.

SD3 on the other hand, has more ways to do this and they are splitted by:

    • one really easy: show available instruments of the same type as the selected, from the current instruments sound library.
    • one powerful: have filters where you can select properties like “search only in a certain library”, or “search only brushed snares”.
      • Since you can, as John said, press Alt + R, click the requested library, and all the instruments from that particular library will be shown we opted to keep the simple way as simple as possible. You can also use the arrow keys to preview them, and also enable auto load so each selected instruments is automatically loaded.

In theory, the simple way could have contained options to select library, select instrument type, and even more options, but the way we chose worked the best when we tried it. It doesn’t mean it’s the perfect solution though, so your request is noted!

The Grand Piano is a good start, since a grand is one of the most versatile instruments of any genre.

I would suggest that you listen to all demos of the EZkeys products. Many instruments can sound “orchestral” with the right treatment, where reverb is one of the important effects!

My personal favorite is Dream Machine, which has lots of ambient sounds (although I don’t make black metal) 🙂
