Unless I am missing something, taking individual beats and storing them in a user folder is way harder and badly designed in SD 3.

Yes, the User Folder view has been redesigned from EZdrummer 2. The exact design from EZdrummer 2 wouldn’t work in Superior Drummer 3, but the current implementation can be improved, like you wrote. We will have a look at this.

Aslo, your TABBING system needs re design. Next to search, there are tabs, and when you click on one, they get undone, erased, go away etc. This is terribly un intuitive. I constantly find myself click a tab thinking it will bring up only that tab aspect, such as “tap to find” compared to other filters that are also on. Please look at the design and make it more intuitive.

By “tabs” – do you mean the active filters (circled in the attached screenshot)?
If that’s so: the active filters row are a result of all the filters that has been enabled for the current search, and the functionality to click to remove is there to easy clear some or all the filters.

…have you tried using the ‘Modifier’ MIDI FX on the SD3 track, with Scale set to -100?

This seems to have worked for a Logic user who wanted to reverse the CC:

Ok, to exclude any other problems (like having Direct Listening enabled, that sends the clean audio straight out) – if you load any other plugin instead of EZmix – does the clean sound disappear?

Yes, you can copy the library from the SSD to your internal disk and set a new path for that in Superior Drummer 3.

Henrik I think you needed to mention one thing “Stacking”

Ah, obviously! I forgot to mention that in my post 🙂

I think you confuse Superior Drummer 2 with some other software, because Toontrack has never used dongles for our software.
Superior 3, has like our other software, a system where you authorize a computer to run the program on. You can have 2 simultaneously authorized computers for Superior Drummer 3, so you can use a home and a studio computer for example.

Check the Velocity Gate box right of the drum kit. If it’s not visible you need to go to the Show menu above and check Velocity Gate to make it visible.
With that box visible, select the “rim click” articulation in the Articulations drop down list, and set the gate to 1 to 40.
Then select the x stick and set gate to 41 to 126, and last select rimshot and set gate to 127 to 127.
This requires all the used articulations to be gathered in the same instrument to be able to split like this to one MIDI note.

Reply back here if you can’t make it work!

It would really help if you could make a copy of your Cubase project where you strip away all instruments but the Superior Drummer 3 track. Leave the MIDI on the Cubase track, zip that project and post it here. It’s hard to guess what’s going on without testing it!

Do you use the latest version of Superior Drummer 3 (3.0.3)?
If you use that, when you import or drag a MIDI file to the song track, a popup will ask if you want to apply the MIDI In preset that is enabled. You should have that option checked.

Another way to get MIDI from a DAW to Superior Drummer 3 is to record enable Superior Drummer 3 (the red dot button below the song track) and then play the MIDI from the host. Now the MIDI will be recorded into the song track of Superior and the notes will play the same instruments.

Try it and reply here. If there are differences, there is a bug we need to look at!

    1) What is “invert phase” in the mixer?

You should read into this matter, for example on this page:
https://www.justmastering.com/article-phase-and-polarity.php (The button in the Toontrack mixer is a “reverse polarity” button)
As a general rule – when you load a preset you can leave those buttons untouched. The preset maker placed them in certain way to make it sound good.

    2) Can you recreate a Superior Drummer 3 Core preset (for example Andy Sneap – Kit 4) in SD3 – Metal Foundry? Can I add the same SD3 kick drum Andy Sneap uses in his SD3 core preset, then the stacked kick drum, then use the same mixer settings and it will sound alike?
Do I have to create all effects, reverb, EQ etc. one by one or is there a way to export SD3 settings and import them in SD3 – Metal Foundry?

You can save each instrument as a User Instrument, and save each Mixer Channels, and then load them in another library – but it would be practically impossible. Each library has it’s own sound of the room, mic placement etc. to color the sound from that studio, and the gear that was used. I would advise against this. It would be like trying to restore the audio from one recording studio in another studio…
Try to focus on the audio instead of the visuals here, and use the library that you like the most 🙂

    3) Why are the cymbals prepanned? Cymbals on the left are panned to the left whereas cymbals on the right are panned to the right…I want to use a cymbal sound that can only be applied to a right cymbal BUT use it for the left ear. You can change panning for toms but cymbals seem to be pre panned?

Cymbals differ from other drums in such a way that cymbals are often recorded without one separate microphone for each cymbal. Insted, the crash, ride etc. are recorded in the overhead microphones – that is why the cymbals are labeled as Close Mic Instruments in the overhead channel. Since one mixer channel has lots of different instruments gathered, panning that channel would pan all instruments. What you need to do is to create a separate mixer channel for each of the instruments in the overhead mixer channel, to be able to pan them individually. This is done in “Route Instrument Microphones”.

I hope this clarifies some things for you 🙂

You can achieve the same result by record enable the Superior Drummer 3 track, and play the part you want to bounce from the host. Now the MIDI will be recorded to the song track in Superior, and you can bounce it. It’s essentially the same procedure as in SD2, with the exception that you have to do the recording to the song track first…

It has always worked to choke cymbals with aftertouch, the difference in the update is that it can be recorded to a MIDI block on the song track. In the next version we will also add the option to edit Aftertouch in the Grid Editor.

Do you want to use the aftertouch feature with electronic drums or by editing MIDI manually?

Does the sustain work on other plugins when this happens to ezkeys? We need to know if this is caused by ezkeys or some other software…
