last check — overall system latency. https://resplendence.com/latencymon — while this is typically for determining latency for audio performance, it can pinpoint other system issues like interrupts etc causing performance impact.
even new hardware can have “early mortality” on the bell curve of electronics lifespan. so even stuff only a few days or weeks old can have failures. just the nature of the beast when billions of transistors are involved ๐

maybe run the Samsung Magician to check the disk performance. maybe it’s having problems which aren’t obvious with the task or resource manager.

sometimes the A/V settings can be scanning temp files (e.g. handles for audio) or plugin content – so check any A/V settings to exclude your DAW and any related child files, as well as the raw content folders. you can use your performance and resource managers to watch and see if that is one of the causes.

the ASIO4ALL driver is simply a wrapper over the older WDM driver, use WASAPI Exclusive instead or get a proper IO unit with actual ASIO drivers. most onboard audio is not going to be very good, and if there is RealTek involved – avoid the RealTek ASIO (in fact make sure to disable it).

or just export the drum track MIDI and load it into the other OS project? or are the Reaper files not compatible across OS?

unfortunately h/w cannot stop memory leaks and writes on protected memory from other programs. especially *nix based which do not have protected memory permissions like Windows does (and even then a poorly written software can still punch it…). my $1000 laptop can run the EZK, EZB, and EZD apps + my DAW (Cakewalk) which has Kontakt running 5-6 instruments all simultaneously. and to-date (6 months?) not a single crash due to those apps (some flakey UI stuff in CW (which was fixed) and some 32-bit plugins i had running did and subsequently got rid of in my workflow).
so maybe the DAW you’re using? or something in the OS? patch levels? plugins?

not to mention the OP’s large collection of Perl MIDI scripts ๐ impressive.
ย
quick note: i started using Perl in and around 1992 and used it as my main programming language for about 15 years… then Ruby happened ๐

Thanked by: Bear-Faced Cow and ologyeschew obfuscation. i’d wager the percentage of people who are “coders” is higher than you might expect. however, if we rate them as “professional” vs “hobbyist” vs “i had to do it because i couldn’t get the filtering right on MIDI events it took forever”ย types, then yes the number is likely lower ๐

so, with the new update, EZK has the option for program change in the standalone version but not in the VST3 (which has this handy information ๐ )
any thoughts on perhaps enabling program change on the VST3? it has been done by a number of other product vendors. or perhaps a VST2 version then?

verified – i can use my VST2 version of products like AAS Lounge Lizard, but not the VST3 version.ย also, apparently Steinberg made the no RAW MIDI decision for VST3:
โThe program change messages are not received by the VST 3 (this is because Steinberg wanted to abstract all midi messages with VST parameters and prevent the plugins from processing raw midi events). It is a limitation imposed by Steinberg, there is no workaround, except by loading the plug-in as a VST2 instead of VST3.โ

hmmm, maybe the version you’re using still has “program change” as a MIDI option vs mine v2.0.2 which only has “Bank Selection”
Glenn

it would be nice for the app/plugin to restore the program change (as well as keep the bank setting too) option. ๐ the we could build (or buy) articulation maps to control the piano (although might be an issue if load time is needed versus the instrument is cached), and sound options versus purely relying on MIDI “key switches”…

so in CW, the channel and bank are active, but the program selection has no action on the EZK sound (program) selected.

Thanked by: Patrick Rowlesi think the issue may be something that changed in the new version? in the help file, it shows the switch as “program change”, in the newest version, it shows “change bank” which is a higher level like the piano itself versus a program change which would be the sound of the piano…

ah. gotcha in the bottom of EZKeys 1 library i see FX and Endings (all 12 of them ๐ ) i’ll likely stick to using the intros (there are a lot to choose from in the EZKeys and the extensions) and just edit to fit as needed ๐
