Problem solved. Attachment from my previous post contains the same behavior, but:

    1. Superior Drummer Upgraded to v3.0.2. (Not sure what’s fixed in this version)
    2. Removed all settings in C:Users\DocumentsToontrackSuperior3EdrumPresets
    3. Copied MIDI In/E-Drums | Roland to a new preset, edited and saved.

    Hi-hat sliders works as expected.

    Thanks,
    Erwin

Do you fear that your downloads could have been corrupted some time after they were completed?

I’m concerned about corrupted files on my harddisk caused by harddisk hardware failures. (I’ll replace the disk ASAP) The “Sound Installer.exe” setup cannot be trusted, because it accepts missing graphics files in the download folder and 0KB obw files are also copied.

    @Olof said:
If so, you can make a download get re-verified like this: rename it in Explorer, activate Product Manager so that it notices that the download is gone, change the file/folder name back to what it was, and click ‘download’ in Product Manager. It will see that the file/folder actually already exists so it will start by verifying it (and will redownload parts that fail verification).

That’s exactly what I’m looking for and works perfect.

All download verifications are already implemented in the “Toontrack Product Manager”, but looks like a hidden feature. I suggest to add a “Verify” button to check the contents of the disk. The verification takes a while, but saved me hours of redownloading everything.

Thanks for your great support, Olof!

You can also create your own “User MIDI” folder in the main MIDI directory…and you will see it right above the one that’s in SD3 by default.
Then you can select the SD3 “User MIDI” and just exclude it…not use it.

I think that will work for you.

Yes, I used this trick in SD2 and works fine in SD3 as well. However, SD3 has a new “User Midi” directory with more functionality. See a similar post with this trick here:

    Thanks for your comment, scdbs.

Yes, I used this trick with Superior Drummer 2. However, SD3 now supports a new “User Libraries | User MIDI” in the Grooves panel with more and new functionalty:
    1. SD3 contains a new “Add subfolders” button on the User MIDI to create new directories inside SD3. That’s not available on “Factory” Midi directories.
    2. SD3 contains a new “Sync File Changes” button on the User MIDI to synchronize file changes on disk. That’s also not available on Midi directories.
    3. Manually modifying the Midi directory requires a restart of SD3. That’s not needed with the “User Midi” which can be used inside SD3.
    4. The “restore MIDI database” is an emergency button, because it erases all favorites and rebuilds the MIDI database.

I like the new “User MIDI” directory and is a great improvement compared with SD2. So my feature request is to put this folder on top of the list. Kiss

    Hi John,

Thanks for your explanation. Yes, the registry trick works for me, because I don’t have EZdrummer 1/2 or EZplayer Pro plugins installed.

    Regards,
    Erwin

Not that we support hacking our resource installation like that, in any way.

Sure. Just a warning: Don’t try this at home:

SD3 crashes when removing Click1_Hard.wav or Click1_Soft.wav at startup. I’m aware that this is not supported and found this accidentally.
Suggestion for the developers: Add a try/catch around the file open? Wink

The original metronome WAV files cannot be opened with an audio editor or DAW, because it is a special TTPW file format (dumped with my C++ application):

    Input wave file name: Click1_Hard.wav
    Header Read 44 bytes.
    Read 4096 bytes.
    Read 4096 bytes.
    Read 3036 bytes.
    File is:11272 bytes.
    RIFF header: RIFF
WAVE header: ttpw < Expected WAVE
    FMT:fmt
    Data size: 11264
    Sampling Rate: 44100
Number of bits used: 0 < 0 bits???
    Number of channels: 1
Number of bytes per second: 65552
    Data length: 5978
    Audio Format: 3 < This is WAVE_FORMAT_IEEE_FLOAT
    Block align: 5978

So when I replace the WAV files with a custom one like 44kHz 24-bit, you get an extremely load noise/DC component at SD3 startup. Be careful, otherwise you blow up your speakers. I’m not requesting support, but leave it up to the developers to handle this.

Conclusion: Wait for official metronome support with custom WAV files…

What’s not tested, does not work. (c) Erwin.

I’ll go with your suggestion to simply uninstall the plugins, move the sample packs, and then reinstall just SD3 and re-point to the new EZ Home location.
But…if you don’t have EZDrummer…then you should be able to set your EZHome location when you are installing SD3.

I could not manage this with SD3. I think you specified the EZHOME directory during the EZdrummer2 installation which is missing in the SD3 setup. I have a reproducible testcase on a clean Windows 10 installation:

    1. The SD3 installer asks for the VSTPlugin directory, not the EZdrummer installation path. See the screencapture of my SD3 setup below:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/gm22zlj61y62fgb/SD3Setup.gif?dl=0

    2. The Edit button is still grayed out without any other Toontrack products installed.

…and there are other ways to change the ‘EZHOME’ repository.

Can you tell me how? I think it is not possible with SD3 and want to report this as a missing feature (AKA bug).

That would be 44.1kHz. (Not that we support hacking our resource installation like that, in any way)

Thanks for your explanation, Olle. That’s very helpful to create a workaround.

I miss the requested metronome features, too!

I’ve added a feature request where you can vote:

Thanks for your explanation. I’d like to have control over the default locations on my harddisk. This simplifies my backup/restore schemas when I can store my projects and MIDI recordings on one location. This makes it also easy to exchange projects between computers.

Should I post a separate feature request on “Requests and Feedback”?

If you would like to preview the sound of an instrument without selecting it, hold down Command + Options (Mac) and click the instrument (Control + Alt + Click for PC). Conversely, it’s possible to select an instrument without previewing its sound by holding down the Shift + Option while clicking (Shift + Alt + Click for PC).

Thanks Henrik! Shift + Alt + click on PC answered my question.

I suggest to add this shortcut combination to chapter “3.4 Drums Tab Header Bar” | “Articulation Menu”, because this shortcut is described in a different chapter “3.2 The Drum Kit Graphic Interface”. I was not aware of this by reading reading 3.4.

FYI: I tried combinations like Control or Alt or Shift, but Shift + Alt + click is not a common shortcut combination on PC. Anyway, no problem to learn this combination, just my feedback. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks a lot! I was also looking for the PDF to read it offline.
I also don’t like the login before you can access the online documentation. Pressing F1 or Help | Operation Manual should be easily accessible, otherwise people won’t read the valuable documentation.

A word of caution, this way is not supported and there are other ways to change the ‘EZHOME’ repository.

I could not find better ways in SD2 or SD3 to move the EZHOME directory. I don’t have EZdrummer.
I use this registry trick since the early days of Toontrack and I’m fully aware that this is unsupported. It works for me. Laugh

Hopefully a programmer can chime in here and clarify but I think that performing this registry hack may mess up future installations of EZX:s and Toontrack MIDI.

    That would be great!

I forgot this: I wish I had Superior Drummer 3 10 years earlier! My complements for the developers.

currently you can’t change either but it has been requested. Please feel free to add your voice to this in the ‘Requests & Feedback’ section.

Thanks, I’ll do this. I suggest a metronome volume slider popup beside the Signature / Tempo controls.

The workaround for now is to route all faders going to Out 1/2 to another output (you can still have e.g. Out 3/4 coming out your physical Stereo Out), which gives you the Metronome only on the Out 1/2 fader in the SD3 mixer.

That’s a nice trick which works perfect. Thanks!

Note: I’ve also replaced the click sound by replacing the following WAV files in 48kHz 24-bit mono:
    C:ProgramDataToontrackSuperior Drummer 3ClicksClick1_Hard.wav
    C:ProgramDataToontrackSuperior Drummer 3ClicksClick1_Soft.wav

I could not find a better way to do it.

Do you know you can upload directly to your post pictures?

The Toontrack forum does not support screencaptures in .gif fileformat, so I use Dropbox as workaround. (Recorded with Reaper’s LICECap)

    In which environment is this?

Thanks for your reply. This is on Windows 10 64-bit with Superior Drummer v3.0.1 in “standalone” mode. I’m using a copy of the Roland preset with hi-hat pedal control on CC4. Please find attached my custom setting, saved from SD3.
