Oh, hey John, ONE last question…

I’ve installed Superior Drummer 3, and have just tested for AU Plugin and standalone, all is working great! If I wanted to move the sound library for this app to my external SSD, do I perform the same process as I did for EZD2?

Here’s the current path I see in the App Support folder on the internal drive:

//Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Toontrack/Superior Drummer 3/

On my external SSD, I’m hoping to preserve naming conventions for my other plugins, so here’s where I have EZD2:

//MusicLibs/29 ToonTrak EZDrummer2/EZDrummer/
(The last subfolder being the one dragged from the internal drive’s Application Support folder)

 

So…for moving SD3 to my external SSD, could I create the following folder:

//MusicLibs/29 ToonTrak Superior Drummer 3/
(Then to this location, move the subfolder “Superior Drummer 3” from the internal drive’s Application Support Folder?)
So that it would ultimately look like this:

//MusicLibs/29 ToonTrak Superior Drummer 3/Superior Drummer 3/

 

…Or, MUST I keep the containing folder “Toontrack” in this path? If I have to, then the external SSD path would ultimately look like this:

//MusicLibs/29 ToonTrak Superior Drummer 3/Toontrack/Superior Drummer 3/
(The next-to-last subfolder “Toontrack” added in order to mirror internal drive; and the last subfolder “Superior Drummer 3” being the one moved from the internal drive’s Application Support Folder)

 

I hope this is clear, and not too excruciatingly redundant. It’s been said of my sire, if you ask him for the time, he’ll build you a clock. 😉

Wow,  I had no idea. Thanks.

Somehow (for years?) I’ve been keeping maintenance of what I thought was my Sound Library in a completely different location than where it actually existed. I wonder how it seemed to me like my alternate folders were up to date? LOL

Oh well, I’ve followed your directions (And documented how to do this), and it works. The Sound Library is now on my external SSD.

Sorry, I’m confused. im not trying run the instance of EZD app from the external SSD; I want to run the app from the internal drive, while accessing the sound files, which will reside on the external SSD.

So im not sure of the purpose of copying system files such as the Application Support folders over to the external drive.

Also, I guess im reading it wrong, but what is gained by copying app system files to the external SSD, and then deleting them? Did you mean copy the app system files to external drive, and then delete the app’s system files on the internal drive?

The sound files have always resided in an entirely different directory tree instead of putting them in with the system files of a default install. (Since during the install, the sound files were already in a separate location than the app system files on the internal drive). So I have copied the directory tree of the sound files to the external drive, then deleted the old location on the internal drive.

My understanding was all I had to do was move the sound files to another location, then run the app (from the internal drive). When the app opens, it wouldn’t find the sound files, because they’ve been moved to the external drive. so the app would ask me for the new location.

What is happening instead, is that the app running from the internal drive is finding sound files from somewhere That I don’t understand; instead of asking for a new location of the sound files.

Thanks very much for the response, I appreciate it! Yes, there is an EZDrummer folder in the system folder “Application Support” that you describe above.

What does this mean? (what am I supposed to do with it?) The attached jpeg is a screenshot of the folder’s contents.

Man, I SO wish ToonTracks thought there’d be a market for this. The instruments are of crucial importance to me, but if I could also have grooves such as jazz samba (uptempo, like Nando Lauria has used), Partido Alto, and Meracatu, I’d be so stoked!

Thanks! Yeah, I just created my own using a pair of tracks for cymbal rides. That worked pretty well, but still haven’t figured out a way to get fast smooth drum rolls in MIDI
