Congrats for your radio appearances !

I listened to “Very Jaded Point of View” and found you had a better sound with this song (I felt a kind of 80’s mood) . I don’t know if it is a matter of ezx. I don’t own neither Rock Solid nor Rock! EZX.

Maybe could you increase your stereo field, high medium & high frequencies, and master too, for your new song ? I don’t know how Soundclick deteriorates the sound.

You’ve got your own style. Just my feel.

    satrianalf,

Thank you for listening & for your comments, I appreciate it!  I mix on headphones (so I don’t drive my wife nuts, and I like the way my headphones sound anyway), so that may contribute to me not panning out the audio as much as if I was using monitors.  I have been recording in Cubase at 24 bit (minimum) for over ten years.  By the time it is turned into an mp3, it’s not going to sound quite as good.  Within the last year or two, you can upload up to 100MB of audio per song, while having a free soundclick account, though I haven’t tried uploading big 24 bit wave files to soundclick; not sure that would work.  Plus I was afraid, with a large wave file roughly 50MB large, if that would have trouble streaming.  I’m going to check out some of your music in a few minutes.

I had a listen. So far, the only thing that really stuck out in the first song is that The drums did not feel prominent in the mix. Other than that, I liked it.

    Bear-Faced Cow,

Thank you for listening & commenting, I appreciate it!  Attempting to listen to “Somewhere in The Sky” objectively on my headphones, I admit the drums get a bit overwhelmed during the chorus (except for the drum fills); but that’s just my headphone/ear/brain combo.  I’m going to look around and see if you have any new threads on this forum….didn’t notice any.  If you have a song you want me to check out, leave me a link.

If you are finding that it is overwhelming in the chorus, perhaps add a bit of automation uncertain channels.

I haven’t released any new songs lately, as I have been taking the time during COVID to sharpen some rhythm skills.I do have a couple of songs in the works, however.

    Bear-Faced Cow,

I do use automation to the best of my ability.  Sometimes it is easier to look back on something more  objectively months or years after I finished recording it.  Though my hearing isn’t completely consistent from day to day also.  And then there is the issue where l get tired of working on a particular song, and I know it could be a bit better, though I want to work on something new.  Ever get that way, where you get your fill of working on a particular song?

Of course I do! That’s what I stop mixing that song, and will come back to it a couple of days later when my mind is fresh. The worst thing you can do is mix a song when you are fatigued. It is far better to rest and come back to it when you are feeling in the game. Otherwise, you plague yourself with poor makes decisions which then show in the song. Even after I mix this song, I will try to wait a couple of days before I consider mastering it. That is when I will have another listen to the song and decide if certain things need to be tweaked. I don’t believe in fixing anything in the mastering, just as I don’t believe in fixing any recording in the mix.

And yes, our hearing changes daily because our feelings change daily.

I agree with you.  I have noticed ages ago, whatever I recorded last is quite loud.  I want to hear it well to determine if it sounds OK.  Then after some time, I keep gradually turning it down until it reaches a decent level.  This might take place over several days of working on a song on most days.

Years ago, I saw a statement on some music-related forum where someone said something like: I never finish a musical project.  It just gets abandoned.

I thought that was funny.  Sometimes I feel like I will keep working on a song until I can’t stand working on it anymore.  Then it is finished!
