Toontrack License Transfer Fees and Toontrack Forum Restrictions

I do this in one post because these are simply two things that piss me off 😉

#1 License Transfer Fees

Is there any kind of statement/explanation why Toontrack needed to introduce the fees a few months ago?

And will you now also be informed about the  15 euro/dollars fee per license number in an appropriate form prior to the purchase?

Is Toontrack possibly willing to buy back those licenses that one bought before the fee was introduced and now want to get rid of them?

Or would Toontrack support switching the aforementioned licenses to other products of the same families?

If Toontrack had at least introduced that the fee only applies to products purchased after this date … but no!

I just feel betrayed. Sounds harsh, but it is like that. Collecting a load of products and being punished when I want to resell a few of them.

If you sell a MIDI pack for 15 euros, Toontrack will get 15 euros out of the 15 euros, and you’ve given the MIDI pack away for free.

I still have one EZX license left that I purchase before the license transfer fees has been introduced. But now at least I know that I should not register for fun because of the reseller punishment 🙁

In the last few days I wanted to introduce a musician buddy to EZmix for mastering, and now I’m really happy that he is more interested in the WAVES Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain Plugin than in EZmix.

#2 Forum Restrictions

I do understand that it is in the interest of Toontrack that only those who really own the product post and answer in the help sections.

I absolutely do not understand that for someone who is interested in these products it is not even possible to simply read these informations!!!!

What is the point of that? Is it an absurd marketing idea to encourage people to buy? Just to be able to gather information about a not-yet-bought-Toontrack-Product?

Is there a new head of sales at Toontrack? 😉

No, let’s stay serious! I’m slowly losing my interest in Toontrack… and I guess I’ll be relieved when I’ve used this last EZX license, and tick the whole thing off, and can concentrate on Arturia or other brands… the first example is that I preferred to update the Arturia V-Collection instead of starting with EZbass!

There was a simple question concerning EZbass and the (as far as I know) fact, that Toontrack uses one and the same sample for the same note on different strings. Even Ample Sound Bass allows you to force using a specific string 😉

And what answer do I get there? I, who have put thousands of euros on the table for Toontrack products? What do I read in the forum after the Google search has referred me there?

I read (freely translated): “Private Party” 😉

This topic is even more important with the upcoming release of the double bass expansion than with the electric basses!

Thats what I do – for the future. And now nowing that there is license transfer fees it is okay with me regardnig future buying 😉

But introducing the fees not saying that it does not have to be paid for licenses that were bought befor the introduction- that feels simply like a betrayal to me…

May that be as it is, after registering the Big Band EZX today I think the topic Toontrack is none of my topics anymore 😉

Well, I agree, that ain’t cool, and kills the 2nd hand market.

 

They didn’t advertise this as loud as their other stuff..

I just realized this when I wanted to sell the stuff I’ve paid $1141.00 for. I regret buying now. I’m trying to sell my stuff for $550.0 in a bundle. I bought a lot of stuff in bundles and onsale, so individually I own about 2k worth of their stuff. It’s not cool to do this to customers. This is why I’m going the hardware route. I own about 10k worth of software, and a lot of companies make things too difficult. It’s like Akai or Roland charging you, if you want to sell a keyboard or MPC that you’ve bought from them already. They’re already selling there stuff at a premium. It’s predatory what Toontrack is doing, though. $15.00 bucks a pop is robbery.

Playing devil’s advocate here: it does take toontrack employees some effort because it’s a manual process to register and unregister a license key. Effort that doesn’t translate into revenue or profit.

However 15 euro’s is a bit much, and it should be per transaction not per product. It makes it much more interesting to sell off bundles. Toontrack could automate the process using the “toontrack manager” product. Being able to buy and sell secondhand is very important to me as a customer.
