I am wondering if there are any sample packs out...

I am wondering if there are any sample packs out there that do NOT have drums that ring horribly.  I love EZ drummer, but I wish they would have taken the ring out of the toms when they were recorded.  If there’s an easy way to do it, I’m all ears.

when I usually record drums, I pad them to get rid of that ring – because I don’t know of ANY mixes, other than ambient, sparse music, that this sounds good in.  They’re no good for rock, at least the length of time that they ring.

So I’m interested in some ideas/sources/techniques to get rid of that problem.

Well yes, you’re correct — you can find toms that don’t ring, but for me, that kind of defeats the purpose. Might as well just make a generic, no-name pack without all the bells and whistles. If I want to use a Sonor kit, I want to use a Sonor kit — not mix toms from four different manufacturers and libraries just to get the right tom sound, just to exaggerate my point. And what about those who don’t want to buy a bunch of expansions just to find toms that don’t ring?

Then use something like Superior Drummer, where you can control the envelope of the toms. There is no generic one-size-fits-all. Drum recording is as individual as the producers themselves. You need to align yourself with one that suits your song best.
