I am installing all my music production software on a new laptop. Because I ran out of disk space on my main drive, I had to move the EZDrummer 3 content to an external drive. This worked pretty easily for EZMix, EZKeys, and EZDrummer 2. I just used Terminal to mv the folders to the external drive, then when I started those apps, they ask for the content location. After pointing them at the new location and a little churn, all three seemed to start up and work just fine.
This isn’t the case with EZDrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 though. EZDrummer 3 just says “No resources seem to have been installed! Please reinstall EZdrummer 3”. When installing EZDrummer 3, I can install it to the external drive, but that’s not what I want. I want the app on the main drive and the content on the external drive, but it doesn’t seem possible to do this. Why doesn’t EZdrummer 3 just ask for the new location or give me an option to set it?
Similarly, Superior Drummer 3 just hangs. I see “Superior Drummer 3” in the menu bar, but nothing else. The menu has no menu items in it. It doesn’t even tell me anything, let alone allow me to search for and select the new location for the content.
How can I fix the EZDrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 installations so that they can have their content on the external drive?
I should mention that I used the Toontrack Product Manager to install all the apps and purchased content on the new laptop.

See this section of the EZD3 manual on how to relocate the library paths. The same method is used to relocate S3 libraries.

Thanks for the response, but for EZDrummer 3, I did follow those steps, however I’m now stuck in the situation where EZD3 on startup requires a reinstall rather than prompting for the new path. Do you recommend reinstalling it and then trying to switch paths again? Should I just install it to the external drive?

Yes. I’d recommend reinstalling and try setting the path in EZD3 again.

Thanks, this seemed to work for EZD3. I still see some files in the /Library/Application support/Toontrack/EZDrummer 3
folder, but it’s only 871M. Without doing anything else, When I select Libraries/Paths
I see the external drive location already selected, and if I look inside that folder, I see several EZX3_EZdrummer3_*
subfolders, mixed with EZX2_EZdrummer2_*
folders and EZX_*
folders. I spot checked it by pulling up some EZD2 and EZD3 drum kits along with the Americana kit and they all seem to play just fine. I also compared this with the EZD3 installation on my other computer and everything seems consistent. Hopefully that means the move and reinstallation worked.
However, I’m still stuck with SD3. I even tried to download and re-install SD3 (for macOS 10.10 or above) v3.3.2, but when I start that up, it still just hangs. I see the menu bar entry for “Superior Drummer 3” but no menu items, and the main SD3 window never comes up. Can you help with that too?

Also note that with SD3 hanging, you can’t quit it, you have to Force Quit.

OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8

2020 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Audio(mobile rig)
Okay, here’s how I solved it. In TPM, reinstall SD2.0 but *don’t* reinstall SD3 Upgrade. I tried that and SD3 still hung. When I only reinstalled SD2.0, SD3 started up as normal. I had to go to settings to fix the paths to point to my removable drive, but once I did that, all my drum sounds were found and everything seems to work just fine.
