First off, the more length you require, the better quality cable you will want to consider.

When working with my writing partner we track into 2 different rooms of the house, using my small “man cave” as a control room and a den about 30 ft away as the live room. So that may answer your audio cable question. No problem with headphones, mic cables, instrument cables, at least from my experience. I run 15 ft MIDI cables between the Yamaha brain and MIDI interface and audio inputs without issue. USB does have a limitation, which hits (I think) at 5 metres (about 16.5 ft)… to manage USB distances I believe you could place a powered USB hub somewhere along the chain. Firewire interface and drives I have in close proximity to the host so I don’t have any experience there, however Granite Cable apparently certifies their FW cables up to 32ft.

Hope this gives you a place to start…
