    Thanks Mick,

I already know about those symbols, which are also available in the Mixer…but they ain’t workin’ for me. Whether I click it on the arrange page or in the mixer, all I get is that GUI in my screenshot, which is an expandable thingy which has loads and loads of (presumably) automatable dials etc…but No Actual EZD GUI.

sometimes the Bar-1 in EzBass does not line up with Bar-1 in DAW…ie; Bar -1 in DAW shows as Bar-4 in EzBass…I just move the track in EzBass to fix the offset.

    Hope this helps you…

Thanks for your comments Yagro. I moved from PT to Studio One last year, and will never go back to PT. I like to “own” my products instead of needing to pay annual subscriptions etc…Avid lost the plot years ago in my opinion. Presonus have Sphere, which is a subscription thing which gives unlimited access to ALL of their plugin/instrument content, but if you don’t keep the payments up, you lose access, meaning you wouldn’t be able to continue on projects that use Sphere content…SO I just stay on my fully purchased S1 Pro and this way I don’t get to a position of not having access to certain content, and instead I use S1 plugins as well as a lot of Waves, Eventide, ToonTrack, Native Instruments, iZotope etc. For the same reason I closed my Slate Everything subscription, because again, without payments monthly or annually you can’t use their gear. I hope your music is working for you…Cheers

Hello Yargo, I’ve had EZBass for a few months and haven’t had this problem with it being out of tune. I play/record the Bass Guitar as you would normally, onto a track, then I put that into EZB to edit and because I like the sound engine in EZB…sits well in a mix.

The main problem I’ve had is with it not always syncing to the Tempo when there are Tempo Changes within a song. It’s a random thing and I can usually find a work around, although it is a bit of a pain. Maybe the out-of-tune you experience could be because some of the articulations in your track within EZB Audio Tracker/Editor need precise editing…I’ve found that they are usually pretty precise and need close attention…eg; a slide up or down can sound “off” if it’s too long or such. Maybe not. Just an idea.

I notice you’re using MacBook Pro M1 Max on Monterey. How do you find it? I recently bought a new Mac Studio M1 Max and found that many of the plugin/software companies haven’t got up to speed for both the Monterey OS and the M1 MAX…a lot of them are only compatible with the M1, but not the M1 MAX. Because of this I’m still working on my old MacBook Pro and am trying to see which of my many plugin suites will work in the new M1 Max setup. Any info you have regarding this would be good to hear…Cheers

    Hello tom,

I play the entire song when recording my initial bass guitar part within the DAW; I often do that in smaller sections in order to get exactly what I want.

After I get it into EzBass via AudioTracker, I “edit” it in the EzB Editor Grid. I do it as a whole song, but also often copy/paste from within that ‘whole’ ie; if I think the Verse 1 part has edited up as I want it to, I will sometimes copy/paste that up to Verse 2 etc.

This works for me. I must say that if there are Tempo changes within the song it can sometimes be tricky to get things lined up. The ‘start’ of the Song Track in EzB doesn’t recognise the following adjustments such as – In Studio One I always have a few Bars of pre-song ie; I can set the songs’ Bar 1 to actually be a few bars after the Start Marker in S1, in order to have a 2 Bar Count-In for recording subsequent tracks in the song.

I hope you can make sense of this, and wish you well with your work.

    Hello Tom,

I also play the bass guitar into my DAW, Studio One, and then get it into EzBass via the AudioTracker. I do this because the sound quality of EzB is great, and easier to get sitting right in the mix.

It’s usually just about right, except for a song with tempo changes, which takes a bit of mucking about to fix. That said, it sounds like you’re doing what I do – – – except I suggest not even using the Chord picker in EzB; you have already decided what parts the Bass should play haven’t you?

After putting the bass audio from AudioTracker into the Song Track in EzBass I just completely hide the Song Track (once all is aligned properly), and do the fine detail editing, such as articulations and velocity etc, in the Grid Editor of EzB. From what you’ve said you have no need for the chord picker or ‘suggested’ bass lines, so give it a go.

    Hope this helps you…Cheers

    Thanks again John,

    The only differences I can see between what I did and what you did are;

    1) When exporting a file to get a Tempo Guide from Studio One you Saved As (.mid) but I Saved As (.midi) ~ apparently there’s a difference, although minor. The tutorial I got this method from stated that S1 uses (.midi) not (.mid)

    2) You wrote “When I hit stop in Studio One, I selected the option to Import a Tempo map from a MIDI file and loaded the Tempo Guide.mid I had created.” ~ And then ~ “Not bothering with correcting any misinterpreted notes, I clicked the “Song Track” button to show the Song Track, placed the cursor at the beginning and clicked “Add MIDI to Song Track”. ~ I did the same thing except I just clicked “Add MIDI to Song Track” without opening the Song Track, and I didn’t place the cursor at the beginning.

When I did it all again using the (.mid) format when exporting a Tempo Guide from S1 and replicating your other moves the result was EzBass recognising the Tempo changes. It’s very strange, because I had been doing everything exactly the same except for those 2 small actions. I’ve not yet tried it on a completely new song but will do so soon.

Maybe you could suggest to ToonTrack that they address this issue in more depth in the User Manuals etc. There is very little information about it which is why it’s taken this long to get it working properly. I may not be a computer software technician, but I can usually follow steps in a User Manual and/or tutorial to work things out.

Let’s hope things go smoothly from here on in. Thank you for your dedicated help…

That would be a big help John, as after 5 days with TT Support we’ve not resolved a single thing.

I can send via Dropbox, but where do I send the Link so that you can get the files?

    Hello,

I’m just another EzBass user, and am having a lot of problems with getting it to recognise
    Tempo changes within a song.

However I think I see your problem ~ You don’t use Audio Sender to actually Play the Guitar INTO Audio Track ~ You record the Guitar (or Bass-whatever) into your DAW, then put Audio Sender as the FIRST plugin on that recorded track, then you can open EzB, Audio Tracker, at the bottom there’s a box to tell it where to get the Audio from, in your case the track is labelled as Guitar Input, so in AT select that as it’s input, and press Play in your DAW. EzB will record that Guitar into AT and the you carry on from there.

Also you can just drag the recorded Guitar file into Audio Tracker and tell it if your converting Bass Audio or Guitar Audio etc.

    Hope this helps you…

    That would be great John.

I’ll just send the files as seen in the screenshots of yesterday – An EzDrum Midi track, and a Bass Gtr Wav which I played into Studio One. I think that’s all you’d need. Although come to think of it, I suppose you’ll need the whole Studio One Song File because you’ll need the Tempo Changes I used in the experiment.

Please let me know what you’d need, and the best method to get it to you. I do have Dropbox so it should work.

Thanks again…I’ll get it to you tomorrow, as it’s dinner time here in Australia, and I’ve been on support forums a lot today. It’s tiring…

Hello again John. I thought you might like to comment on this from Toontrack Support regarding the problems with EzBass Tempo changes.

I’ve included my reply to them BELOW their instructions…Maybe you are actually from TT Support so apologies if you’ve already seen this. It’s just that what should be a simple thing is turning into hours spent each day going back and forth with support tickets.

This from TT Support…”While using Audio Tracker, you will have to import the tempo track when you are setting the tempo of the tracker.

It is using a completely separate tempo track to EZbass in general and ignores any tempo change that is set in Studio One. It will be a statically estimated tempo out of the source audio if no tempo track is imported (or it will use the EZbass project tempo).

So, when you are in this state (see image) after you have recorded or dragged audio into the tracker, you will have to import MIDI that contains the tempo track/map.

    Now here is my reply…

    “Hello Toontrack,
I followed your instructions and it resolved nothing. I will describe the steps I took for 2 attempts at this.

    Attempt #1
I dragged the recorded Bass Wav file from Studio One arranger into EzBass Audio Tracker.
When the Tracker Session Setup window opened I clicked on ‘Import Tempo Map from Midi File’
I then chose a .midi file which I had exported from S1, in this case it was the .midi file I’d exported from the EzDrummer track in the session.
The tempo was still way off the mark; nothing had improved.

I watched a Tutorial showing another way of exporting a .midi file with Tempo information from S1 and did that.

    Attempt #2
I again dragged the Bass wav into Audio Tracker.
When the Tracker Session Setup window opened I clicked on ‘Custom’
After adding the Audio from the Tracker to the EzB Song Track (in order to see it in Grid Editor) I opened the Tempo Track and saw that it had registered what appeared to be the relevant Tempo changes…AHA I thought. It worked.
BUT on playing the piece it was exactly the same as all the previous times; Not following the Tempo Changes.

This is becoming a real headache. I have followed all the guidelines, and even uninstalled/reinstalled EzBass.
There must be a solution to this. I am waiting again for resolution.”

I’m glad you think it’s been resolved. I can tell you now, as of 22nd Feb 2022 that the Tempo issues are very very problematic.

When I use EzBass Audio Tracker with Studio One there are major issues with a session which has Tempo Changes; ie the song may start at 100bpm, but have the tempo increase and/or decrease at varying points in the song. I’ve spent days trying to get this sorted.

I’ve been back and forth with Toontrack Support because their suggestions are not resolving the problem, because that’s what it is, a problem. And a major one at that.

I hope someone who has encountered this and found out how to make EzB follow the Host DAW can provide me with just how they got it working.

    Cheers…

    Hello John,

The problem is persisting. I just did a trial using a Drum Loop and then recorded my Bass Gtr into Studio One.

I then recorded that into EzBass Audio Tracker. It shows up in the Editor Window as expected. “Follow Host” is engaged. It plays in sync for the first 4 Bars but begins to drift when S1 starts slowing the Tempo (as written in S1 Tempo Track). Through the following 8 Bars it goes further out of alignment, ending up way off by the time S1 begins to speed up again.

I could actually see this happening during Audio Tracking as the recorded wave display showed it being off the BarMarks even as being recorded. I had not done anything in EzB Tempo Track. When I mentioned that in my original post it was a one-off thing I looked at, but that’s the one and only time I’ve touched it, so I don’t see how that could be causing any problem.

You can see this from the attached screenshots, and that the Tempo settings at the bottom of both S1 and EzB are changing throughout as expected. This has me stumped, and at a bad time as I need to use it constantly.

I’m going to contact TT Support because this is somewhat major.

Thanks John, I’m not sure what was happening with that song, and yes, maybe I was a bit muddled in my post.

I had already done a few songs with very small tempo changes, and there was no issue, so I’d never even looked at the Tempo Track in EzB, and didn’t even know there was one. As soon as the Audio Tracker is done, I hide the Song Track. This is because I’m only using it for the sound generator and editing capabilities, which are far superior to midi edit in S1.

That song I referred to in my post was weird, in that from the get-go it just wasn’t transferring into EzB Audio Tracker properly, and definitely not recognising tempo changes, so I tried a few times, always with a result that was way way off the grid. I ended up manually going through and basically re-writing’ the bass part, as I did know how it Was and how I wanted it To Be.

I’m working on songs currently, but will set aside some time to record some drums and bass guitar with radical tempo changes as an exercise to see how EzBass handles the tempo etc, and will report back. I do know that EzBass is always about 4 Bars offset from the song in S1, but that’s not a real problem at all.

I don’t know about that, but I suspect you can’t. It’s not like putting an Amp Sim on the audio track you’re recording to. I can tell you that I record real bass using my Fender Jazz and then get that into EZBass for editing and also to use the sounds in EZB, which are great.

You do this by inserting the Toontrack Audio Sender on the pre-recorded Bass track, BEFORE any other plugin on the track, and then open EZBass, go to Audio Tracker, select appropriate input at the bottom (this will be your recorded Bass track) and then you just Play the song / DAW and EZB will record the bass track into EZB where it becomes a Midi track for you to edit etc.

Hope this helps you and gets you onto the right track.
