Are you setting up a ekit to play, or are you using it inside a DAW to create sessions ?

Thanked by: Miscreantalmost useless grooves. terrible design. sound are good. But ridiculous price for really just a set of samples.

the future hit options have always defied normal procedures. you just need to pick ones that work. You can adjust the start points but its not like a normal ” trigger and sample” situation where you can see that reflected in the sequencer type thing.
I often end up recording them and dealing with them as an audio file. Editing audio still has its advantages

Thanked by: Scott Eshlemanmany ways to do this.
one way is…solo the instrument in the drum kit window. export song as audio files. choose from the resulting files the two tracks that make your stereo files

Im always developing techiques to make the Snares sound more real.
When Im working a song that need very realistic drums I use up to for instance of SD3 just for more varied snare options. After the drums are arranged. I break of the snare hits on multiple SD3 tracks. IT takes a little bit of set up but it sounds so good. Each different instance of SD3 has the snare a tiny bit tweeked. For example one track is pitched up 1% one track has a shortened envelope, one track has eq1 brighter…etc…
THe results are great. makes it sound like a real drummer. Ive tested Drummer/engineers , they can pick it out as “fake” drums. Whereas , almost all songs of SD3 without all the special tweeks, are easily identified as “FAKE”.
This whole concept doesnt really apply to certain types of music. Like hardcore modern metal (the faker it sounds the more the dudes like it), or dance music and obviously Hip Hop type stuff.
However, i do a lot of quieter, classic, and acoustic style music. That needs the best fake sounds possible.
Im still hoping for a button that says “MORE VARIATION” . I realize this would require the SDX creator to include these extra samples, but cmon, people would love it once the heard the difference.
The pic shows a typical multi snare session ( 4 variations)

As far as the grid editor, i use my DAW 95% of thge time, and if i use the SD3 editor; when something is not available in the SD3 environment i use the DAW midi.

Hopefully one day , SD3 will have 2 products.
One for E drummers and one for production.
Thats what keeping this from growing on either side of the market.
Would be great to sell as both but only install whichever version you want.
I do disagree that the Plug in is bad. After using every single drum production software for the past 30 years, SD3 is an AMAZING achievement.
Nothing even comes close to the functionality of SD3. And the sounds are also the best. It takes some knowledge and experience to get good “pro” sounds from any source.

the choke roll is there, its just not an option.
Im looking at the hitmaker “closed rolls” as wee chat.
I see what you did. Yes the sample is kinda in between a one hit and a long sample.
i would try drawing in far less notes near the end. But also mute that sample exactly where you want it to disappear. It is an advanced SD3 operation. But once you learn it, its easy.
What are you working in? Pro tools, Logic…etc? stand alone?
Mac Studio
the “choke mute trigger” option is only for cymbals and other long duration samples. that where it would be if it was possible.
However I still cant figure out how this would sound “impossible” using the normal notes.
Mac Studio
ok, its confusing because if its a sample of a roll, why would you need 17 midi notes to play that sound. It looks like you “created ” a roll by playing 17 notes really close together. In which case you simply to need to only have it play once a beat or so ahead of the where it should end.
Did you draw those note in the grid? or was it created using a groove? or did you play it on a V drum?
Mac Studio
One work around would be to automate the snare parameters of that sample. Automate the sample to silent ( or extremely short) at that moment. Its not as hard as it sounds.
Is the “roll sample” an actual role? or are you stringing together a normal snare sample to sound like a roll?
Mac Studio
how long is the snare sample that continues to play?
I understand you want a function to treat the snare notes like a hi hat cancellation dynamic does. not sure how it would sound any different than what you are displaying in your pic.

What sample is “still” playing. Is that a normal sanre sample that you created a roll with< Im not clear on what sound is still playing after the last roll note. The sample is a tiny length. Im not sure how you would notice this ?
Unless its a sample of a role, or swirls. IS it the reverb that persists?
How long is the unencumbered snare sample that is still playing during the rim shot?
