The recommended way is to run two instances just as you have already
worked out yourself.
In EZ2 you could in principle use MIDI ProgramChange instead
to switch between user presets but that is a hazardous business since
changing sounds involves loading them from disk and that takes
some unknown time and your song track won’t know when the loading
is finished. Most likely you would end up with some part
of your drumming missing right after changing the kit. This
works well if you are playing live. You just don’t launch the
next song until your drums all play.
In Superior2 you could, in principle, use X-drums to create
an extra version of a drum that uses a different tool but that
is in many ways just a more cumbersome way of emulating
running two instances. Well, at least if you need to do it
for all drums. If it’s just for a couple of them it might be
a good idea. Also, if you use the built in effects in the
Superior2 mixer then you will also avoid running a double
set of effects that eat CPU time.

There is a ‘Bounce splits stereo’ option in the settings tab.
Maybe that is what you want.

The basic system is that you choose EZX with the Bank Select.
Then you choose a particular preset for that EZX with the
Program Change.
Within this system you would think of the User Presets
as another EZX. So, to activate one of your own presets
You first have to select the ‘User Preset Bank’ by selecting
the bank that would come after the last EZX or you can
just select a User Preset from the GUI first. Then you
use Program Change to select among your presets.

Bouncing down multiple channels is a feature of Superior Drummer.
EZdrummer does not have that feature.

For many EZXs ‘Optimized’ is the same as ‘On’ but for some EZXs we have
found that it is better to turn some humanization off for a few instruments.
So, ‘Optimized’ is the EZX default as it loads in EZ2, S2 and possibly EZ1
and the way we suggest you run it.

If the voice limit is too low it will sound strange when you
rapidly hit the same drum with a sequence of blows that
exceed that limit. A limit of 4 is typically enough to make
it impossible to hear these ‘artifacts’. That is the reason
why the default value is 4 for most drums.
However, with a limit of 4, long ringing cymbals will
not build up the swell that a real cymbal would.
Each hit will sound ok but it is a bit like the cymbal is
slightly muted. That is why you will find that most
rides and crashes have a higher limit, 8 – 12. If you
want even more swell effect you would go unlimited.
I wouldn’t see much point in setting a limit of 20 or higher.

Ah, sorry, I forgot about C&V. True, it also lacks positional sensing.
Roots has it, though.

All SDXs except Hit Factory offer a simple version of positional sensing
for the snare. What this feature does is to allow CC control of whether
the Center or Edge articulation should be played. Hit Factory has no
Edge articulation, so there is nothing for positional sensing to do there.

It could be a matter of CPU-overload. ‘Small Oak’ is one of the most
CPU consuming presets we have.

Everything in that grey row at the top of the window belongs to
your host. We have nothing to do with it.

There is no way you can ‘over save’ a factory preset in EZdrummer.
