that’s weird: my account page still doesn’t signal any update of the Americana drum set…
yet if the download version is actually different, it would be nice to read the list of changes and improvements: are there any release notes?
yet it’s what is written on the back of my Americana box: system requirements, OS X 10.4; probably a mistake…
with Metal Machine, whenever the humanize button is engaged, EZdrummer will play every other kick strokes on the alternate bass drum; otherwise it will play as if the kit had a single bass drum, unless the groove makes explicit use of the 2nd BD…
yes, there is: running X.5.8, I’ve installed everything on an external disk, and now EZdrummer will happily use that when booted from my MacBook running X.4.11
XLN Audio normally packs its grooves within the corresponding ADpack (which can be used by Addictive Drums exclusively), but from http://www.xlnaudio.com/en/myaccount-myproducts/offline you can download any [registered] groove pack in standard midi file format
to save mixer settings from the EZdrummer plug interface :
1. press the open mixer button
2. click the presets drop-down menu
3. save as…
yes, any EZX kit will play any Toontrack midi pattern: if needed, it will even optimize the pattern according to the number of available toms; in fact, the only thing it can’t do is play a cowbell when the kit hasn’t got any…
metal machine has 4 data folders: unfortunately, the 4th one comprises 7 songs and is too big for EZP’s window… anyway, I’m not sure whether showing you these meaningless details is actually helpful since it doesn’t tell you what’s in the midi files, does it?
but most fills do use cymbals… locate, for instance, the very first folder of midi grooves in the metal machine expansion (human 100 bpm), and check the six variations of its fill folder… they all use cymbals:
1. hi hat
2. chinese
3. crash and chinese
4. ride and crash
5. chinese and crash
6. hi hat, crash and chinese
as far as I know, out of a hundred of fill patterns or so (for this midi pack), there must be, at most, a couple of them that don’t use cymbals…
anyway, yes: we’re expected to edit the patterns so they fit the music; or else, write music that fits the patterns… ah, but lazy drummer sure is a catchy name!
but the levels aren’t that different, really: in your mp3 rendition, the difference is less than 3 dB measured peak to peak; or 2.4 dB measured from RMS levels… there’s no cause for alarm!
I made a symbolic link to another drive, renamed it “MY MIDIFILES” and it caused no problem… as a matter of fact, I even did this with the main MIDI folder and it worked just the same: I guess it’s not documented because it’s so obvious!
