So the way I have logic set up, if it doesn’t see a channel being used, it doesn’t load it till I click on it. Since I do all the midi programming on SD3’s grid editor instead of Logics piano roll, Logic thinks that the channel isn’t being used since it doesn’t see the midi. So the Logic project opens just fine but when I click on SD3 to load the Virtual Instrument, the loading icon appears and never goes away. If I right click on the Logic icon, it says the application is not responding.
So good news is I left it on that loading icon all night and when I came to check it this morning, SD3 had finally popped up and allowed me to export the midi. I’m still not sure what the root cause was. Maybe there was a little glitch in the initial loading procedure in my logic project and letting it just load for a while finally worked it out.
I will definitely keep your ideas in mind if I run into this issue again. Thanks for the suggestions!
Good idea. But unfortunately all the midi I did in SD3’s grid editor is saved as part of the logic file and not in it’s own file so there’s no way to open it in the standalone.
Basically I write the drums then send him the midi file and he plugs it into his daw using a program called perfect drums. His midi mapping is slightly different than mine so we wanted to line them up.
I found out my kit saves the midi mapping to each preset so I was able to just make a specific kit for my band and customize the midi mapping without changing it for all of my other kits.
Thanks for the info and the picture! I’ll set that up. Ya, I’ve noticed you have to be more accurate with rimshots on this snare than an acoustic snare.
No, it looks like it just sends which ever note is picked up first. It’s either note 38/D1 snare zone trigger or note 40/E1 snare rimshot. It doesn’t send a brand new note for when I hit the snare and the rim at the same time. I’m guessing I just have to do it using velocity then? Like set the rim to trigger rim hits and then the center to trigger rim shots at higher velocity hits?
So I figured it out to some degree. The user kit I had it set to on my module was using a processed snare drum that did not have the cross sticking ability turned on. I changed the user kit on my module and now the cross sticking works on superior drummer. The only thing that doesn’t work on superior drummer is the rim hits. Do I just have to choose between having the rim trigger a rim shot or having it trigger a rim hit? Is there anyway to have SD3 pick up a separate midi note when the snare drum and rim are hit at the same time? Basically I want to be able to do rim hits, rim shots, and center snare hits and have SD3 trigger it accordingly if that makes sense.
Then I guess the question is how to enable it to send out those separate midi notes from my module. If anyone knows how to do this that’d be great! I’ll start looking into it as well.
I know that it’s enabled because it works just fine when I’m using the sounds on the td50x module. It just doesn’t seem to be getting picked up by superior drummer.
No, I do not.
Yes, that is correct. It shows right now that it’s not mapped though. Basically superior drummer only is responding to D1 – snare zone trigger and E1 – Snare Rimshot. If I hit the center of my snare it plays D1 but when I just hit the rim, try to cross stick, or do a rimshot, they all just trigger E1. It’s like Superior drummer is not picking up the different articulations. The cross sticking and rim function trigger just fine when I’m play directly through my module so I think the problem is coming from superior drummer and not my snare drum or module.
That’s weird then cuz I went back to the basic td50x preset and it only allows the center and rim shot hits.
Thanks for the answers. I figured out my problem. If you bounce the whole song as a track rather export the whole song, it works and you don’t have to bounce the midi to audio in the session.
Hope this helps if anyone has the same problem.
Thanks for the info. I’m fine with doing that. Just to confirm what you guys are saying is that this feature is not available with logic? For some reason cakewalk let’s you just export everything no problem. The only problem I foresee is that since I’m doing the drums multiout into logic then mixing using logic instead of superior, I’ll have to bounce all the tracks separately then import multiple tracks back into logic each time. I wasn’t planning on bouncing everything as one track and importing a single track back in.
But won’t it bounce as a seperate track from the rest of the song? My goal is to export the drums and the song together into one finalized track without having to do any extra importing/ exporting. I was able to do this when I was using cakewalk.
I fully agree with Josh. This is a feature request that would be perfect for those who want to use the standalone app to either play to music or if you just want to use the standalone app. I’ve noticed when using the vst plug in the daw doesn’t allow you to make the plug in full screen so it’s not as user friendly when trying to mix.
