I always find it hard to locate the scroll bar in the Grooves window. It’s a tiny dark gray line on a slightly darker gray background.

Thanks for the feedback! I will have a look at the color contrasts on different GUI parts, and increase them wherever needed.

Are there any other parts of the GUI that you find hard to see?

but when I call them up , the open hi hat position is default

In what situations do you need to have the hi-hat opened? For clicking on the kit for preview? For recording?

As John said, this can’t be saved, because when you play MIDI files, or by playing e-drums or a keyboard, the incoming MIDI notes will tell the kit what openness to play.

You can save VST Presets and VST Banks for plugins in Live (in the Device box in the bottom).

But I am not sure on how, or if it’s possible, to switch these using keyboard shortcuts, or MIDI messages…

Right click any drum in the interface to see the properties. On the lower right corner there’s a Details button, which reveals the MIDI notes used for the selected instrument. It also contains a MIDI in display, which shows the last MIDI note that was received by EZdrummer 2.

    You can do like this

    • Create a custom map in SD3, that makes your pad play the wanted drums
    • Record MIDI to either Logic or SD3
      • If you record the MIDI to Logic, the MIDI won’t be affected
        • It will be mapped when going into SD3
      • If you record to SD3, the MIDI will be transformed by the mapping
        •  When you drag the MIDI out from SD3, the MIDI won’t be “de-transformed”, e.g. you should disable the incoming MIDI mapping in this scenario

You can also change the internal MIDI mapping of SD3, which will make the core MIDI play the wrong instruments, but your pad will always play the correct instruments. Doing this isn’t as simple as using the MIDI In Mapping page, since that is designed to be able to be preserved even when changing Drums and Mixer Preset (sound preset), or Library

Is it possible for a 3rd party sample in SD3 to somehow be included in the ambient and OH mics along with the rest of the (native) SD3 kit?

A drum that has been recorded using with several microphones will have a depth in the sound. since it has some natural decay, another room sound, different attack, etc. It’s not the same as multiplying one audio source!

If your sampled drum only has one audio file, then there’s no need to put it into the ambience mics, as well as in a main (close) microphone. Having the same audio being layered often leads to problems, such as phase issues, etc. Further, it doesn’t add anything to the mix.

And then, I assume, once a clip’s part designation is changed, say from “Verse” to “Bridge”, then I would expect the Song Creator to treat it accordingly.  Right?

Yes, if you for example drag a groove to the song track, change it’s Song Part to Intro, then drag it to to your User MIDI folder – it will be treated as an Intro when you use it with Song Creator.

    @Bear-Faced Cow, @Henrik, anyone…

There seems to be implications that I can drag & drop from SD3 and keep my user MIDI In mapping. I’d really appreciate if someone could tell me how.

    Thanks!

Can you explain what you want to accomplish here? I think it’s easier for me (or anyone else) to answer if it’s possible to achieve what you want to, instead of me trying to explain how the entire handling of MIDI is done in SD3 🙂

    For example, write something like:

    • Drag in a MIDI file, where the kick is on note 38
    • Change something so that imported MIDI file plays back correctly
    • Drag the MIDI file to Logic
      • Will the MIDI file play the the kick correctly?

    Oh my god.

I feel so embarassed. Works perfectly, thanks!

You shouldn’t feel bad. Loading external plugins in Garageband is far from easy 🙂

No, it’s not possible to change the preferences of Toontrack MIDI.

When you import MIDI to EZkeys, you get a popup asking if you want to adjust the song key, and alter the velocities – to make them less static.

Most DAWs has this feature, where you can randomize velocity, so I would be surprised if Acid Pro didn’t have that!
