In the main menu of EZdrummer 2 – go into Settings > E-drums, and select Yamaha as the MIDI mapping.
You can also try to change pedal correction to see if any of the presets makes the hi-hat work better.
If you want to manually change the MIDI mapping, then this has to be done in your host, in your case Garageband. Not sure on how (or if) garageband can do that.
The mapping can most of the times be changed on the e-kit, not sure how it’s done on your model though…

You mean that you can’t place MIDI blocks anywhere on the song track, right?
Snap to grid can’t be disabled, but the further you zoom, in the finer the grid resolution will be!
You can zoom with the mouse wheel, the + and – buttons on the right side or my favourite – drag the edges of the scroll bar handle below the song track.

If you are using EZdrummer 2 – the easiest way to check this is from the main menu > “Check for Updates…”
EZdrummer 2 will tell you what you need to update

We have a small bug in the software that makes ezkeys recognise the wrong key of “80s POP 66 BPM” (and possibly some other songs from the Ballads pack). Until we release a fix for this you can:
– Set the Key of EZkeys to G major (in the display, left of Signature and Tempo).
– Go into the menu, select “Browser/Use Original Key Signature”
– Drag the MIDI files from “80s POP 66 BPM” to the track and the key should be correct.
When you are done, go back to the menu and deselect “Browser/Use Original Key Signature”. If not, the MIDI you drag down to the song track won’t be transposed to the key of the song.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and we are working to fix the bug!

This is what you should see when you right click on a MIDI block on the song track of EZdrummer 2:

Do you have the latest version of EZkeys installed? Check this in the main Menu (top right of EZkeys), and “Check for updates”

The problem is that the DAW:s can’t receive multiple MIDI files and recognise them individually. They will be merged into one file and unfortunately we can’t do anything about that. We can only hope that they’ll add support for this in the future.

If you use count-in with your DAW, doesn’t that work with EZKeys and EZdrummer 2? They can’t play anything before the first bar though.

The problem is that some DAWs won’t let you drag and drop MIDI from the DAW. You can find out if it’s possible by trying to drag a MIDI clip from your DAW to your desktop. If that’s possible then you can drag MIDI to EZdrummer 2. If it’s not possible, then there is nothing we can do about it, since it’s up to the DAW manufacturers to implement that feature.
However, one workaround – in the cases where it doesn’t work – is to record arm EZdrummer 2, and put the MIDI on the EZdrummer 2 MIDI track in the DAW. When you press play, EZdrummer 2 will record the MIDI played from the DAW, and will end up on EZdrummer 2’s song track.

Is it the same issue when you run EZkeys as a standalone and if you run it in a DAW? Sorry for all the questions, but we need some details to track down where the problem is…

Do you have any other plugin to try to see if it’s EZkeys or your MIDI keyboard that’s the cause of this?
Can you record some MIDI with sustain in your DAW and see if the MIDI (and sustain) is recorded properly?
