thanks! no, i have not tried adjusting the outputs in EZD, but i did look at the SD3 features and realized that to get the full capability it’s likely an upgrade to SD would be desirable. when i get a chance i’ll play around with the output setting.

what happens for me – if the chords are simple triads, they seem to be recognised correctly, if i use 7ths, 9ths 13ths or a lefthand bass, then they often fail to be recognised correctly.
@jazzmandan — maybe post the MIDI file so the techs can look into it.

Hi John,
it comes up as “A Major” (a relative key) but switching to F#m – the chords match the lead sheet.
my steps: set key of song to F#m. drag MIDI onto track. it shows A Major. I select either the suggested key “F#m” or the no transpose “F#m” and the result is the same.
my error – had a lefthand bass instead of full chords which caused the analyser to guess incorrectly.

definitely strange. i created a simple MIDI file in F#m and just placed all the expected chords. upon import into EZK2 it becomes A major (a relative scale) and the chords are not as expected (likely due to the relative scale?)

Thanked by: jazzmandanthe songwriter scales is a device to suggest possible progressions but once you move the chords into your track and/or change up the MIDI, the songwriter scales is not really useful (imho) unless you’re adding another section or track. you can of course change scales like major and minor – however, it does allow that because it’s fairly “trivial” from a mechanical change perspective versus what a composer may have intended…
it would be a nice feature to ask for though: the ability to try out other scales (although it’s also likely those changes may significantly alter the progression vs simply flipping major and minor).
maybe something like they have in hookpad?

sorry – i don’t work for toontrack, simply another user suggesting a way to get you working again and so as not to lose your client or business.
as far as the product working, i’m using Cakewalk on a PC and all the toontrack products work perfectly in the DAW and standalone mode.
based on your descriptions (like rapid mouse movements etc), it seems likely there is a UI contention issue on the Mac version when it’s running in the DAW.
just curious – if you use another DAW (like Logic or Presonus Studio, etc) do you experience the same issue?

while you’re waiting on a fix – does this issue happen in the standalone version vs when its running in the DAW? if not, maybe creating the MIDI parts in the standalone and importing that into the DAW project would at least get your working again.

what version of Cakewalk are you using? i’m using Cakewalk by Bandlab v2022.11 build 021 64-bit. EZD 3.0.6.
so i might not be able to test the same as i don’t have EZD 2. can you try a different drum VI? and perhaps convert the step sequence into MIDI and see if you can spot something in the PRV indicating extraneous / missing notes?

one note: particularly for folks new to MIDI – is ch. 10 historically is for drums / percussion 🙂 and some products (older ones) can generate (or not) inconsistent results when ch 10 is used for non-percussion synth. weird but happens.
EZD -- set to ch 10 and track channel set to ch 10 - works.
set track to ch 5 nada = expected.
set EZD to ch 5 - works.
set track to ch 10 (leaving drums set to ch 5) nada = expected (just in case a default to ch 10 :-) )
EZK -- set to ch 3 and track channel set to ch 3 - works.
set track to ch 2 - nada = expected.
set EZK to ch 2 - works.
note — i haven’t tested the program change.
I’m using Cakewalk by Bandlab v2022.11 build 021 64-bit

and make sure to rescan your plugins in CW. it’s possible you need to run the VST scanner to ensure the new vst3 is registered with CW plugins…

i found that each track can have it’s own key assigned. so track one (in example) is C Major and track two is A Minor. export – two separate files (Etc) but then join them up in the DAW.

because all great songs either end together on a single set of notes or have a fade? 😉 i generally will take an intro section and edit it to create an ending since most of my stuff i’m looking for a tie in with the lead intro of the song, or simply want to use a sparse intro section as the means of closing. depends on the emotional aspect – a ballad will have a different ending than a rock or funk number – even if it were several instruments all hitting a final note for example.

confirmed – if you have selected notes in the grid, the track bar will scroll, but the grid will not. unselecting the notes allows the grid to scroll. you can unselect the notes when it is playing but scrolling will not work until you stop the transport and start it again.
thoughts:
maybe its a feature to keep you focused on the notes you have selected ? although since you’re past where you selected them, you need to go back in order to listen… so maybe it does need some love – like auto-loop over the notes / range selected? ignore they’re selected and just scroll? maybe a preference to set to one or the other or leave as-is?

yes increase the number of beats per step. 🙂 4 beats = 1/4; 8 beats = 1/8; 16 beats = 1/16; etc ultimately you’ll hit the limit on the sequencer and might consider a plugin that “might” go higher. however if you’re doing really detailed stuff – you might have to step out of the sequencer to get there and use the PRV directly on the MIDI track and set the note durations to 1/64th etc in order to get the rolls etc the way you want them.
