a feature request to have the “stem” export updated to be one per instrument (and mono or stereo as appropriate) or at least better groupings. as a note: “stems” typically are groupings like “bass”, “drums”, “vocals”, “guitars”, whereas the “stem” export in EZD3 is really “partially individual tracks” and really should be full individual mono tracks except things like OH, ambience, etc which are typically stereo. this avoids (me at least) from having to convert things to mono, and also trying to separate shakers and cowbells from the kick drum etc…
for example, following typically commonly used “drum mic’ing techniques”:
- the kick drum is a fairly important one in the mix, so having it be “stereo” and including percussion OH, shakers etc. doesn’t make a lot of sense… and like the “snare top / bottom” tracks, make the “kick in”, “kick out”, “kick sub” separate tracks
- maybe have one OH (overhead) “stereo” (not mono!) which covers the kit… 🙂
- “ambience” is what we typically call “the room”, again a single “stereo” “ambience” track
- “ride” is either part of the OH (which is typical) or a close mic mono track
- no idea what “crunch” is 🙂
so basically instead of stereo tracks, on close mic’d instruments – single mono tracks, and overheads – stereo & preferably phase aligned with the rest of the kit. in doing so, you would have (based on the image example) between 16-18 tracks, 2 or 3 would be stereo and the rest mono.
one example to check on (assuming SD doesn’t do it) is Additive Drums 2 where i can output each instrument to its own track (20 or so on a given kit) plus a few stereo options like OH, Room (“ambience”), Buss (a subset), and Master (total sum of all)
