any updates on the OS or DAW? with a number of recent patches on my system, i made sure to reboot after the patches did their thing (which included a reboot, but sometimes things are processed under your account once you login, so always a good idea to restart after your system “settles” after patching.

one thing i often do is to use the “edit play style”modifiers to reduce the number of notes to back off the amount of activity. i find this not only declutters my percussion, but in general sounds more realistic.

no question – sampled bass will be prone to it. however when i was playing bass professionally, i used relatively high action on one bass to keep it really clean, and mainly light touch on my precision unless we’re doing Rush or Yes etc requiring the Geddy or Chris grinding 🙂
that said, it would still be handy if the TT samples were cleaner. my Ample basses don’t have this much “realism” and it’s adjustable to some degree, although the Ample upright bass (which i also played live using slap, fingers and bow) does have the really long vibration and the “smack” on the neck unless you’re really playing soft…

as far as i know it’s deliberate to make it “real”. i would prefer that the noise can be adjusted when enabled. it’s especially tough on an upright bass when you’re using samples, with the final damp on a low string slapping the neck (resulting in extra percussion like sounds). so for the most part, i use EZB for creating the bass part and then use my Ample basses to play it. and if somehow they’re still noisy, i may use the MODO bass since that’s modeled and not samples.

if you watch the notes being played on the instrument, how are these represented? across more strings or just one or two? if the latter, then presumably most notation programs may do the same thing. not sure if EZB has an option to force the “player” to use more strings or not. like “start all open strings” or “keep all notes within this range of frets” etc

well, if you don’t need a lot of takes, you could bring your laptop into the music store and record it on one of their demo kits 🙂 maybe flip the store employee a few currency units… 😉

in case folks missed this: https://www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/the-download-speed-issue/#post-3209305
probably not an infrastructure issue as much as a cost to toontrack to cover the network costs so likely quotas are in use…

as a general rule – content areas mostly – some programs if i trust them – i will reset permissions to add “users – full control” over the parent and let inheritence propagate down. and certainly my content only directories are “user friendly” this way. also, i set my Defender exclusions as well to prevent issues with my DAW and a number of standalone apps because sometimes the content transfer between the apps and desktop (esp if there are local system services running behind the scenes – Avid, Waves, Izotope, NI, etc etc) can impact behaviours as well (as generally speaking you don’t want users to interact directly with local system running services as it’s a potential security breach).

Thanked by: Shootiein my experience (as a, erm, drummer and drum programming) many jazz patterns are also “4 on the floor” but keep in mind “if it ain’t got that swing, then it don’t mean a thing” – so straight 4/4 for Jazz in generally more rare than swung 4/4. and of course factoring in ghost notes and possibly any polyrhythmic performance in the MIDI, yes, it can sound somewhat “random” compare to straight time.

Thanked by: Mark Allif you’re using EZD – the core MIDI has some basic “odd meter” 3/4 clips to work with. Jazz in many cases is swinging 4/4.

consider enabling the rotor speed via automation envelopes and CC to more quickly accelerate/decelerate & “jump” speeds (like some rock and gospel performances seem to) and/or more intermediate speeds vs the simple slow or faster. this might be a nice option pending a UI change

so far, except for the modelled uprights (like MODO), all the real sampled ones (not just TT) have the “realism” turned up. i mainly use the Ample U Bass as i can mostly control the “realism” and except for the sporadic low E “slap” that occurs on a note end, it’s pretty clean and the option to turn up stuff to get it right. for the slap, i leave it as a percussive effect or i clip gain it later to reduce or eliminate it.

yeah, the printscreen -> presentation is ok, but not as readable, plus w/ i have option to present different notation or embellish w/ BIAB or hookpad.

Thanked by: Dorinda Weaveryes, it would be very nice to have a chord chart! right now, i have to go through a couple of steps – export the MIDI, then import into BIAB (and export that chord chart) or if i want tab – import into hookpad and then export the tab.

Thanked by: Dorinda Weaveralso (like many programs) zooming in the view allows you to see the finer divisions.
