Thanks for the suggestion GWxxx, I’ve forwarded the message to our sound designers!

Thanks for letting us know Rolomoto,

You’re both right it’s a bug. We’re working on improvements to future hits in the grid editor. Keep an eye out for the release notes to see when things are in order.

    Hi bosami,

Dark Matter EZX uses around 1 GB more system memory than the Americana EZX (~1350 MB vs. ~350 MB). If you have heavy projects or your system uses up a lot of resources in the background, that difference is noticeable with 4 GB total system memory.

To use the Dark Matter EZX within ProTools, it looks like you need to free up system memory first. See if there are any other running applications you can shut down or plugins you can disable while working on the drums (and then export the drums as audio when you’re done). Or follow the error message and unload a few of the toms and cymbals you’re not using.

EZkeys reads whatever MIDI information is sent from your master keyboard. (relevant messages are note value and pitch wheel; aftertouch is ignored)

If you unplug your Oxygen keyboard, restart EZkeys and play with the mouse in the EZkeys interface, does it still sound out of tune? If not, your keyboard probably needs a look at.

EZkeys can be tuned with the tuning panel located on the right side of interface.

You have a compressor on the mix bus and the snare signal is much louder than the all the other instruments.

Not to be a bore, but I think your question is answered by the end user license agreement:

    3. NO MODIFICATION. Except as set forth in Section 6 (Terms of Use), you may not modify or
create derivative works in whole or in part based on any one of, or on any part of, a Product.

I’m not a contract or copyright attorney, play it safe!

    Yes, it is completely doable.

    See this thread: https://www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/manually-programming-high-hat-pedal-openess-in-the-grid-editor-window/

Basically, instead of the usual 20-some articulations, you use the trig articulations (edge, tip or bell depending on the library) and control the openness with MIDI CC4 (or CC1 if you want to first program the notes and then record automation with the mod wheel instead).

Just a quick note about the automation: While it’s programmable, it’s geared towards E-drums, so sometimes when you program certain CC4 or CC1 “intervals” you may find that it in fact does nothing at all. That’s a result of the events being filtered during playback out because in live play it may have a negative effects on the performance where there can be tens or hundreds of CC messages instead of just the two you’ve programmed. You can get around it by nudging the “failing” node up or down a bit.

Another quick note: Since the trig articulations don’t trigger the “thump” when you close the pedal hard on a regular hi-hat, I’d sneak in a Pedal Closed note when the CC hits 127 for a bit more realism.

    Hi mattylips,

This has been discussed before and the final say was to not do any conversion because in almost all cases the CC produces a better sound, especially as the pedal movement isn’t instant, so having the extra resolution helps immensely.

I’ll add a feature request so we can debate it again (a MIDI render option), but if you’re looking for an immediate solution, I’d take to googling and finding a tool that can do it for you. It’s just MIDI data after all!

    Thanks!

We’ll look into it and get back to you.

Actually, I was able to reproduce it straight away and have forwarded the issue to our developers. Thanks again!

    Hey Robin,

If you want to be on the safe side, wait until you meet the system requirements. The default kit in Superior 3 uses around 1 GB, but there are many presets that use much more than that. Also remember that your 2 GB system memory is shared between all your applications and the operating system too, so if your projects are already big or you have many applications or plugins running, there may not be room for Superior Drummer.

That said, waiting will give you time to look more in-depth what Superior 3 can offer you. Maybe the new sound you’re looking for is already available for you in an EZX? Superior can load EZX libraries just fine, so if you decide to plunge into the Superior line farther in the future you won’t have wasted your money.
