    John,
Yes running as adminstrator. I am thinking the exisiting 32 bit projects aren’t compatible with the 64 bit system, both Cubase and Toontrack. The 32 bit stuff will play but can’t edit. I did start a new project. When I open a blank project in Cubase 5 and choose add a track I add an instrument track. It comes up with Instrument track configuration. I add 1 track of EZD. SD2 is also a choice. I click the edit instrument button in that track and the EZD graphic pops up, although it is hidden. Now that I have auto hid the windows task bar it just showing the top bar of the graphic so I have to drag up to see it. I pick some groove and drag it to the track and it creates 2 new tracks, one intrument and one identified as the groove track. That one (identified as the groove)is empty but the groove is placed in the newly created instrument track. I can either move the groove to the orignal track and delete the new one or vice versa. Can also delete the newly created groove track. If I do the F11 or add a MIDI track the VST rack opens. If I choose EZD or SD2 there it asks if I want to create a MIDI track. If I say yes it opens the graphic. I pick a groove and drag it to the created MIDI track. Some pop up opens but goes away too fast to read. It also does not drop the groove. Same on either EZD or SD2.
So maybe I have to re learn everything because IT IS different than the 32 bit stuff. I hope this makes sense. The biigest obtacle is re creating the drums. I cut and pasted a 32 bit track into the new 64 bit track and the breaks are different so some editing would be required I guess.

It is perplexing but I will get around it.

OK, found the graphic window, had to minimize or auto hide the bottom toolbar. Still can’t drag and drop any drum grooves either in SD2 or EZD. I have done everything that was suggested. Never had any of these problems with the 32 bit system. I am thinking I should have steered cleear of this 64 bit stuff.

I downloaded the online version of EZD and installed it. THE EZ Drummer.dll is in the VST instrument rack showing as version 2.4. When I add an instrument track to a project, EZD without the 32 bit icon is a choice. When I click on it it opens a track as EZ drummer 02. This project also has a SD2 track in track. If I click on the edit instrument button it turns blue but no graphic appears. If I click on the same button in the SD2 track the graphic appears. The graphic is the drum set on SD2. I am not getting this with EZD.

thanx in advance for your help.

Ok, Either I am a complete idiot or its too early in the day. All I see in my account are update files. Can you tell me where the archive files are located.

OK, I will try that. Are there any other files that need to be manually removed after using the uninstall function? I thought I read somewhere on this forum about remnant files or maybe registry entries that need to be removed as well.

Thanx everybody for their help with this problem.

The computer has 2 hard drives. All the project/song files are on the 2nd drive. I did a clean install of Vista 64 on the primary drive. Clean installs wipe out everything on that drive as I understand it. I installed in this order, Vista 64, Cubase 64, loaded EZ drummer from the original DVD then did the upgrade for 32 bit, then 64 bit. Loaded the Nashville and Latin Percussion from the original DVD then did those upgrades, the SD2 from the original DVDs, then the upgrades to SD2 to 64 bit.

The only program I had a problem with was the EZD. The SD2 appears to be working fine. Unless there are some remnants somewhere.

Should I not be loading the grooves thru the instrument track? Also I let everything load to the default settings. The .dll’s for EZD and SD2 are showing in VSt directory on Cubase.

    Thanx

I am starting to think I should have left everything 32 bit but we will see.

Yes, I did a total conversion. SD2, EZD , all the latest updates for Nashville and Latin percussion, Cubase 5 ver. 5.01 out of the box, haven’t done the 5.5 upgrade and Vista. Took most of the day Saturday.

Did I do something wrong? Everything seems to be working fine although I am experiencing some cutouts but that might be the Steinberg interface or I need more memory, currently running 4Gb’s.

If I load a blank project in Cubase and select add track (s), my choices are audio, instrument and MIDI.If I click on MIDI the VST instrument rack pops up. If I select EZD it asks if I want to create a MIDI track. If I say yes it creates the track but I can’t load anything into it. If I select Instrument I get a pop up asking to add a VST instrument or no. If I click yes then my choices or Steinberg instrument (Halion and all that stuff I don’t know how to use), SD2 and EZD. If I click on EZD the drum set graphic pops up and life is good. The take away for me is to put the drum sounds on an instrument track.

I don’t try to use MIDI controllers. There are more than enough “grooves” to suit my purposes. Otherwise might as well get an acoustic set and mike them up or get a Roland set. I am not a drummer (always hated that term, prefer percussionist) so this stuff works well for me.

I think I figured this problem out. Dave Modisette had warned me I might experience some weirdness doing this conversion and he was right. When I first started using Toontrack products a couple of years ago I was letting the sounds default to the create midi track in Cubase. Then I started seeing on this site about creating instrument tracks. I had been doing this with SD2 and it was working well but in the 32 bit version it would work in either instrument or MIDI. Now they only work in instrument. I got the previous MIDI version in the other projects recorded in the 32 bit version to work by creating some more instrument tracks and dragging the data to the instrument track. When I create an instrument track it asks what VST instrument I want to use, in my case EZD or SD2. So now the edit light lights up and the graphic for EZD, Nashville and Latin Percussion appear. The only other thing is when I transferred the data from the original MIDI track to the instrument track I had to go back in and change those files to Latin Percussion or whatever was originally recorded. So everything seems to be working well both EZD and SD2.

Funny how once you crack one of these mysteries you go Duh!!

I hope this helps anyone else that may have this problem.

    Damian,

Tried that, didn’t work. I am running the Cubase 5 version out of the box by the way which is 5.01. Removed and reinstalled EZD. In a new project I can add an instrument and select EZ drummer. The edit document icon lights up but no graphic so there is nothing there to drag and drop. On an existing project with EZD tracks this light won’t light up at all. Again everything in SD2 works fine including loading EZD files from the SD2 grooves window and dragging them to tracks. EZD is showing in the VST catalogue in Cubase as is Superior Drummer.

I think I am ready for plan B.

    Thanx

Q: why can’t I install the VST where I want?

A: for your projects created with the 32 bit of Superior to load with the 64 bit version without you having to reconfigure your kits and tracks, it was essential that the dll retained the 32 bit dll name. This means that they cannot be located in the same directory, or one will overwrite the other, leading to undesirable scenarios. For this reason we are forcing the installation to a ‘safe’ fixed path on your system, where we know the chances of a 32 bit dll existing there is almost nil.

I had asked Dave Modisette about this but I am not sure i asked the question correctly although he did a perfect job of answering the question I did ask..

So I am planning to put Vista 64 on the DAW computer and run Cubase 5 64 and the interface is 64 bit compatible as well. If I do the default install of what I have, Superior, EZ drummer, Nashville, and Latin Percusiion at this point, which are all 32 bit, then everything I have done so far in the 32 bit software will play on the 64 bit version of the software? I am assuming the software listed have all been converted to 64?? I have about 2 dozen song projects and don’t want to not be able to no longer use them. Mainly the drum parts as they were the most time consuming.

Hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance

I had this issue with C5 after installing the C5 ver 5.5 update. When I rolled it (C5) back to the previous update the problem went away. I guess that leads me to believe it a Cubase issue and not Toontrack.
