If you want to use term “arranging” instead of programming, that is fine with me. My usual process is a combination of two. Some loops I slice and dice, some I re-program where needed. Real world? In early 90s we had a guy play in our band, he used to bring large custom percussion set. One man band 🙂 That’s how some grooves of NI, Groove Agent and Goran sound to me. Like the “real world” player(s) that I’ve heard (and played with) It’s great that EZD3 has single or double instrument MIDI stems, but there should be full kit grooves, just as with most other competitors. Then, it’s up to a user what to keep, what to cut and what to change and mix.
Bottom line, I will likely end up re-mapping some individual grooves. But of gazzilion midi packs (that are quite pricey) toontrack could of done 1-2 world drumming – complete kit midi packs for these 2 SDX’s. Or… at least have ability to auto re-map some that fit the bill, like parts of Jazz and Latin midi packs.
But that is programming. No it isn’t. It is arranging as it should be with percussion instruments
It’s only your opinion. NI percussionist, GA and even small player like Goran Grooves for that matter understood full set grooves pretty well. You don’t have to construct them from scratch just to get an idea what it can sound like with your composition. The thing is they don’t have as nice workflow as EZD3.
“Thus, layering them as such would be expected in any arrangement.” Again, untrue statement. There are several “percussionist” VST’s that have whole kit grooves.
“You can map it any way you want. You can adapt it to your own MIDI grooves.” I don’t believe you can do it in bulk, meaning whole loop pack instead of individual files.
I think toontrack failed miserably in hand percussion instrument grooves. Both instrument by themselves are OK, but not having full… well semi-full kit grooves since first release 15 years ago just unacceptable. So many world genres under represented.
BTW, you can poke at me all you want, but keep in mind, I was not the first one to bring this up. Instead, listen to full kit grooves plugins offered by other developers:
rixa,
Thanks. But that is programming. The magic of EZ stuff is that you can preview grooves on the fly and then do edits once it’s sketched out. And it works wonders for most, if not all EZXs… except for percussion.
Because this kit is mapped the way it is, most percussion MIDI loops need to be completely re-mapped. I have “world beats” from groovemonkey, but it doesn’t play nicely with Latin Cuban EZX because of mapping.
If somebody can recommend a third party percussion midi loops that would work with EZD3 Latin Cuban percussion, that would be awesome. There are sets like Latin Jazz or Jazz, that has bossa in toontrack catalog, but again, because of mapping, they sound like garbage on this kit.
P.S. first “Latin Percussion” kit came out 15+ years ago. I am surprised they didn’t have time to release full kit grooves for these.
Great advise coming from forum member of toontrack forum… Maybe even better, hire a professional percussionist and furghetabout EZD?
NI has a decent sounding session percussionist instrument with decent grooves, but implementation of the plugin is horrible (compared to their other session series). Toontrack – the king of drums with giga sound and midi library has almost nothing to show for percussion performances (grooves).

Thanked by: mikec73Sorry to revive this thread.
My chords (sharps) when dragged over to EZ keys interpreted as flats. Is there a way to bulk convert, or a menu option prior to dragging that I have to change?
Thank you.
Customer support rating changes to: 6 – average.
Features : 6.5
Had high hopes it would re-grove block chords by MIDI IN in version 2. Unfortunate.
I expected a more robust response to this fairly simple question. Not from users, but somebody from toontrack. The cost of the software should justify minimal engagement by whoever monitors this forum. If software was $50-$70 I would have different expectations.
So far my rating:
Software : 8
Customer support: ~2 (if that)
John,
Many loop packs I came across do not start at Bar1, but the clip is properly sliced. (has proper Start and End points) So there should be a simple mechanism in EZkeys to correct this, as this is fairly common. A global setting/option to “ignore time stamp” would work.
“which generally would make no sense for EZkeys 2 to ignore.”
Not true. Make whole lots of sense to me and a few other people I met who encountered same issue and don’t have time of tinkering and re-saving hundreds of files.
Andreas,
Thank you for reply. I have met a few people that use your EZkeys that had the same issue. They would just give up. I sincerely hope this will get fixed. That was one of my bigger hopes for V2…
I specifically don’t want to mention Loop libraries, not to put them in “bad light”, because actual loops are great. Lets just say that out of 7 different packs that I bought from Bigfish, 3 had these issues. One developer sent me a “fixed” version where he moved all to bar#1, but it would be ridiculous to expect that every maker will do same.
Unfortunately, I could not find any batch converter to move and re-save midi clips in bulk to start at Bar#1, so my only hope at this time, that Andreas and whoever will look at this will fix it, otherwise it is a pain to manually resave, especially bigger packs.
Thank you.
Sidenote. On this forum, 2 questions are asked with every post of: EZkeys version and Operating system. A good idea would be to “remember” choices from initial post and not to ask again… at least in the same thread.
Hi Andreas.
I though I was clear… In any case here is a short video of the issue:

Thanked by: Andreas WalfridssonBump and disappointment in Toontack customer service.
2 weeks is more than enough for customer rep to step in to answer fairly simple question. Perhaps they were busy with new release…. So hoping to get a feedback on my question now.
Cakewalk.
I have plenty of heavy duty / resource hungry plugins. I would rank EZkeys V2 on sluggishness scale 1-10 at about 7, while V1 at about 3. Don’t get me wrong, V2 is still fully usable and has plenty of neat features, and if I didn’t test drive V1, I wouldn’t even started this topic. Just curious of what people think.
Brad,
thanks… I am a DAW user of nearly 25 years 🙂
To me V2 feels more sluggish than V1. I am not looking for “solutions”. This is opinion based question comparing performance of 2 software titles. To make it more clear: “under same circumstances”.
Do you feel that V2 is slower than V1?
“I can only address #1. What buffer setting are you running at? As this within a DAW or EZKeys 2 Standalone?”
DAW as a plugin. 512 or 1024… I see what you are hinting on, but this is not related. My computer is fast enough to handle this stuff. I only asked if it is me who is experiencing this very noticeable slower performance when comparing V1 vs V2 or this is common.
