Yeah, it’s like the “top velocity” function of the mimic pro, where you hit the pad as hard as you play and the value gets set accordingly even if you reach only lets say half the range the full dynamic range will be available for your playing style, a 12 year old kid will hit differently than a full bearded 45 motorcycle dude… the 12 year old won’t reach 127 but will enjoy the full volume and dynamic range.
Limiting the velocity range will not decrease dynamic range. The samples’ volume will be scaled accordingly, preserving the entire dynamic range of the mic.
Not the sound but the volume and easiness to reach it, I hit my snare as hard as I can and I can’t never get 127, increasing sensitivity on the module to get more volume is wrong, reducing the dynamic range by modifying the curve is the only solution that works for me, if you’re a heavy hitter and reach 127 easily well that’s another topic…
Also that’s why I mentioned the core SD3 library is very quiet even at full 127, compare it to the Fields of Rock, hit your drum to get 127 and it will hurt your ears, so saying 127 is the loudest doesn’t always apply…
The stock SD3 library is very soft/low volume even at full velocity 127, you need to modify the curve/velocity range
Reduce the velocity range from 127 to 90, i. e. Drag the right 3 points to the left in the curve editor

Thanked by: tendingtropicthere is no new note, roland always has sent 37 for x-stick, 38 for head and 40 for rimshot. 3 notes, 3 sounds recognized by SD3. Now I think you’re confusing how roland triggers different sound out of this 3 notes, yes with the TD-50x you get a different sound if you hit the rim only and the head-rim at the same time, but if you check the midi, it’s the same note 40, which is what SD3 will recognize.
Rimshots are triggered no matter how hard you hit the rim so if you’re asking if SD3 supports hitting the head and rim at the same time to get a rimshot the answer is no, it always trigger note 40(rimshot) by hitting the rim only…
there’s an update in the product manager, Fields of Rock it’s now 1.0.2, so maybe something has been fixed?
For the stock library and presets you’ll be all right, for Fields of rock expansions, biggest needs around 9GB, you won’t be…
Relax dude, you’re coming across very rude, remember the way you ask is the way you receive…

Thanked by: drumjack52Hi,
I updated to 3.2.8, still the same the new hihat settings doesn’t seem to affect the response of my digital hihat roland VH-14D.
8 GB will be more than enough for the core library presets if you only play along with your edrum set, it’s only when you want to record multitrack to a DAW that you need at least 16GB.
