I’m not in front of the computer now to try this, but one hurdle I see is that I don’t have the EZKeys stand alone app to launch. That’s what I’m missing. How do I install that (and plugins), but without installing the sound library?
Pardon, but I’m just not getting this.

I’m on a Mac. Under My Account / My Products, there’s an option for Product Manager or Web Version. When you say application installation file, are you referring to the Web Version (I’m guessing not)? If not, can you provide a bit more info? This might be a difference between Windows & Mac installations.
When I use the Web Version, it does show the sound libraries as already installed but not authorized on this computer. But when I go to authorize, I’m asked for a computer ID. What would that be? And simply clicking “Next” under each MIDI expansion updated those as installed.
Seems I’m only left without the authorization on this computer, at least according to the Web Version. The Product Manager still shows all the sound libraries and MIDI expansions as uninstalled. And I still don’t have the actual application or plugins installed.

I should’ve looked before asking. I didn’t realize the application was a separate install.
Thanks!

Hey BezO,
If all you want to do is route the instrument mics straight to your DAW (and not use the built-in mixer), a default multi out is available through the “Apply Multichannel Outputs” menu button. You can find it in the Mixer drop-down menu in the top left of the mixer view.
It’s not 100% what you’re after of course, but if you have a conventional multi out routing, you can save yourself some time with that function.
Thanks! I was not aware. I’m sure you saved me a lot of time.

@Erik, to answer the functionality question, I’d hope for just the channel out to DAW routing to stick. I still have my base routing to set up but am considering SDX and/or EZX purchases during the sale.
But this thread answers my question about applying my future routing set up to included presets.

Ehhh, after listening to a comprehensive preset play through of C&V & Indie, I can pass. Not much there I couldn’t do with what I have.
Surprisingly, NY Studios Vol 1 sounds like it would add something. And I wish I could find a better drum only sampling of Roots Sticks.
Now the EZXs are where it’s at, but I feel like I’d be buying presets as I could probably design similar sounds with what I have. But the Action, Claustrophobic, Hip Hop, Reggae & Twisted Kits (couldn’t do this with what I have) sound interesting.

Well, not saying I know exactly how and why things are but the very old legacy first Superior had fixed Mono and Stereo outputs; like Mono for the individual instruments and Stereo for OH and AMB.
This worked alright when there was one library only but when the next library came with a different setup, it needed its own version of the plugin (or was it restart of the plugin?) with a different set of outputs. Given the amount of releases with totally different setups in terms of microphones and instruments, it would be impossible to have a ‘one size fits all’ setup. Not the least with all different type of presets. The 16 Stereo Outputs (or 32 Mono) provides a viable solution IMHO.
E.g. I have Kontakt where you can set Mono and Stereo outputs Globally for the plugin (and standalone) in the preferences but each time you make a change, you need to restart your host. Totally killer of workflow and creativity IMHO.
BR,
John
Makes sense.
And like Bear-Faced Cow pointed out, I only have to do this once, plus whatever it takes to re-route the included presets I like.

I’m not really sure the reasoning. TBH, I’ve never really cared much if they were mono channels or stereo channels I was mixing. I tend to do a lot of submixing (in the S3 mixer) in my workflow anyway. Drives me nuts to sift through 120 channels. I also have a hybrid setup and route out to 24 channel summing mixer. I fit all my drums into 8 channels anyway.
I still like mixing everything in my DAW. It’s just more convenient than jumping back & forth. I like to treat kit pieces individually & then bus everything to a stereo channel. Ideally, for me, SD3 would have mono outs for kick, snare & toms.
You only need to set it up once and you can then save it as part of a DAW template. Logic Pro X users can also save it as a track stack patch in their library.
I know, just haven’t gotten around to it. “We” are babysitting my little cousin tonight, so it would be a good night to address some administrative things I’ve been putting off.
And I like a few of the presets, none of which are routed the way I’d do it, so I have to figure out how I’ll redo those.

…so that’s why the Mono Out for Cubase only was implemented in S3.
That would be a great option for all DAWs. I know it’s only 1 extra step per kit piece (panning), but setting up the routing is tedious enough.
What is the theory behind providing only stereo outs any way?

Thanked by: drramin and Brick Fist PowPresets are specific to an expansion. You cannot load or even access a preset from one SDX in another SDX…
Damn! This is what I was wondering before I take advantage of the sale on SDXs. Glad I found out prior. Thanks!

One last question re the multiple instances.
My laptop has 16 gigs of RAM but can handle up to 64gigs. Would installing maximum RAM be an immediate fix or is it not that straightforward?(i.e. with 16 gigs i can load 7 patches comfortably, with 64 gigs should I easily be able to load the other 10 patches?)
Reply To: Multiple SD3 Instances slowing down computer version: 3.1.4
Operating system: Windows 10
Yes, that straight forward. There may be a bit of RAM used by other things, but if the kits total say 60GB, you should be good to go with 64GB.
IMO, it’s always good to max RAM on a music CPU using virtual instruments.

I have 16 gigs of RAM and Yes i am using an E Kit live that will trigger the sounds in SD3 so unfortunately i cant print the grooves to audio.
As far as the Cache mode goes would the ‘clicks and dropouts’ you mention happen on the first couple of play backs Each Time i open my project, or once only? I will give this a try later today (it’s 6:30 am here in Toronto)
So far i have unloaded all toms or cymbals not necessary per SD3 patch. Regarding unloading the articulations is that done simply by unchecking the boxes in the articulations drop down menu?
I would definitely recommend Cached Mode. You will only get the dropouts the very 1st time you trigger a particular sample, and it doesn’t happen every time. Most samples play fine the 1st time through from my experience (finger drumming on MPC).
Playing live, the one issue may be that your dynamics vary from warm up, adding all needed samples to RAM, to performance where you play a sample you haven’t added prior. Limiting velocity layers may help with that. If you’re playing back a pre-recorded performance, no worries about dropouts after the 1st pass.
If you’re playing the drums live, it might be safest to use ALL the other methods instead to shrink kit sizes, if you can get all 17 kits under 16GBs total, which should be possible. Then you won’t have to worry about the dropouts.

Yes, recording direct to Logic has been working great, except it doesn’t allow use of some SD3 features, which is why I was hoping for…
…If you record to SD3, the MIDI will be transformed by the mapping When you drag the MIDI out from SD3, the MIDI won’t be “de-transformed”, e.g. you should disable the incoming MIDI mapping in this scenario…
Ahhhh, disable the mapping prior to dragging out? I must’ve tried everything EXCEPT that.
Thanks!

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomYeah, that’s 60GB of RAM, unless I’m misunderstanding. If you don’t have that available, you’ll need to follow MT’s suggestion.

In case it is necessary, the most used articulations of my custom map:
Ab1 = Floor Tom 2, A1 = Rack Tom 3, Bb1 = Rack Tom 1, B1 = Cymbal 1
E1 = Hat Open, F1 = Hat Tip, Gb1 = Hat Shank, G1 = Ride
C1 = Side Stick, Db1 = Rimshot, D1 = Snare Center, Eb1 = Side Stick
Ab0 = Cymbal 2, A0 = Kick Hit, Bb0 = Kick Open, B0 = Cymbal 3
I need this custom map active to play/record throughout the writing process, with the MIDI in the Logic/MPC(software) sequencer along side MIDI for all other instruments for efficient editing/recording.
