    @Bear-Faced Cow, @Henrik, anyone…

There seems to be implications that I can drag & drop from SD3 and keep my user MIDI In mapping. I’d really appreciate if someone could tell me how.

    Thanks!

Can you explain what you want to accomplish here? I think it’s easier for me (or anyone else) to answer if it’s possible to achieve what you want to, instead of me trying to explain how the entire handling of MIDI is done in SD3 🙂

    For example, write something like:

    • Drag in a MIDI file, where the kick is on note 38
    • Change something so that imported MIDI file plays back correctly
    • Drag the MIDI file to Logic
      • Will the MIDI file play the the kick correctly?

I thought I did. I don’t remember the notes of my custom layout as I use it on a 4×4 pad layout. Hopefully that’s not necessary to get an answer. What I’m hoping to do is:

    1. Activate my custom map in SD3
    2. Record using custom map, either in SD3 or direct to Logic
    3. Drag & drop that MIDI into Logic (or MPC software occasionally) if I record in SD3 with the custom mapping intact so that I can…
    4. Trigger SD3 with the MIDI in Logic, with custom mapping still activated so that I can…
    5. Edit MIDI in Logic using my custom mapping for the duration of writing/composing

As it stands, I’m stuck jumping back & forth between SD3’s sequencer (drums/percussion) & Logic’s (all other instruments) as the custom mapping is unusable once I drag & drop to Logic.

@Olle, yes the SD3 manual is available. But EZKeys, EZDrummer and maybe others are not on the product pages.

I thought it was related to purchases, but the SD3 manual is available even when I’m logged out. The EZKeys & EZDrummer manuals are not either way, unless I’m missing something.

So I’m not sure why I couldn’t find the SD3 manual prior to purchase, but question stands for other products.

Are there any special cases where you want to see what the post will look like?

All cases, but especially when I quote now knowing how to grab partials & split responses like this.

If you select a part, or the entire text, of a post and click Quote, then the selected part will be quoted. That feature is a bit hidden, so we should make it more visible somehow.

    Sweet!

And I’m hoping you can provide some clarification in the Export and Import MIDI Layout thread.

But the manual for SD3 is available before purchase, isn’t it?

I’ve since purchased, so I can’t say now, but I could not find that manual anywhere on this site prior to purchase. And not owning EZDrummer 2, I can’t find that manual on its page at the moment.

    Hopefully Henrik will confirm.

I get it, but I wonder how many potential buyers are discouraged by the lack of access versus the number of illegal owners being denied.

#2 suggestion, add a preview option before posting.

#3 allow posters to edit quoted material to highlight and/or delete (ir)relevant info.

C&V & Indie provide a good contrast to the included kits and address my needs to some degree. I’ll take the time I have to get accustomed to all the ways there are to manipulate the sounds and see if I need anything.

And SD3 exporting MIDI with the default mapping is a bit of a pain when needing to edit.

If you are using the E-drums/MIDI In MIDI mapping, then you can disable that mapping prior to exporting any MIDI, to keep the original mapping for the exported MIDI.

I’m getting confused. My goal is to export MIDI with my custom mapping intact. Is that possible? If so, how would I do that?

In my pre-purchase thread you said MIDI will be dropped to my DAW with SD3’s MIDI mapping despite my custom MIDI-In map. My experience confirms that; When I drop to Logic, I get the default SD3 mapping and have to change the MIDI In mapping back to default to get things to play correctly, only to need an edit and have to change it back to custom, and so on… Not at all workflow friendly.

Bear-Faced Cow seems to be saying he can drop to Logic with his custom mapping intact. If someone can confirm this and provide instructions, I’d be extremely grateful.

If what I’m hoping for is not possible, I guess the answer is to stay in the SD3 sequencer. The problem is jumping back & forth between sequencers is extremely inconvenient.

As a new SD3 owner, I’d like to see the ability to intelligently add/subtract grace notes, bass, melody and overall complexity.

If you’re referring to SDXs, the articulations would follow whatever drum mapping you’re using in SD3 when switching between them. So, I’m still unclear what you’re comparing.

    jord

Ha! Non SD3 libraries… GM, Addictive Drums 2…

Are you defining your drum mapping within SD3? If you’re transposing MIDI within Logic, I can see such issues.

    Also a finger drummer.

    jord

I’m new to SD3 and am still deciding on workflow. But yes, I’ve set up my map in SD3. Finger drumming patterns in SD3 and/or Logic is working fine.

I don’t lean on them often, but I have MIDI from elsewhere. GM & Addictive Drums in addition to patterns I’ve recorded over the years.

And SD3 exporting MIDI with the default mapping is a bit of a pain when needing to edit.

Not sure I see what you’re comparing to in this case that would increase efficiency.

Stumbled upon this searching for a MIDI map.

Any chance there is a list of all the note assignments for each articulation?

Considering that the articulations can be assigned to any MIDI note within a drum map, or MIDI controller, that would be moot. At any one time, I may wind up using up to five different MIDI maps and the assignments are different on each on.

What you can do is open the Midi Mapping inspector and click on its hamburger menu and select Show Keys to get the current note assignments for that articulation.

    jord

Not moot for me as a list to compare & match to others would make creating the maps I need much more efficient. I want to “show keys” outside of the GUI, cut & past, maybe throw in Excel…

I have a suggestion regarding dragging MIDI out. It would be great to have an option for the resulting MIDI to maintain the user mapping.

I get the MIDI notes according to the MIDI map I chose when I drag a groove into Logic.

    jord

Really? Do you only change the MIDI In map or do you also change the internal MIDI standard?

I use a custom MIDI In map, but when I drag the recorded MIDI out (or included MIDI), it’s in the SD3 format and of course doesn’t play correctly. And support in the pre-purchase section confirmed (prior to) that’s the intended result.

If you can tell me what you’re doing to get MIDI into Logic to maintain your custom mapping, it would be greatly appreciated. My finger drum mapping is crucial. It would help if I could leave the SD3 ecosystem without worrying about mapping afterwards.
