There’s nothing rare about that beat. It’s one of the more common 8th note beats used in many songs. And certainly not difficult to pencil in on the grid. SD3 is more than capable of handling a simple beat like that.

Not to try to scare you or anything, but if that is all you see in your disk utility, then more than likely your partition map is pooched and could be a sign that your SSD is dying. I would advise you to get a data recovery app and try to recover as much as you can off of your drive, before it gets in a totally degraded state. An app such as LazeSoft might help in this case. Sorry that it may not be better news in this case.

The video posted (a.k.a. the Sledge Hanmer theme) is not a swing beat, and I would not say is syncopated either. The beat is a typical 8th note pop beat no different than the 80’s synth pop tune “Take On Me”.

This beat can either be drawn directly on an 8th note grid, or you can probably use the Tap to Find feature to locate an already established group either within SD3 or in the web shop.

It’s more about the positioning that the type of mic in this case. Considering that the SM57 is a cardioid mic, I’m guessing that you have the snare within the mic’s position. You need to position it on the hat so that it is aimed away from the snare so that it is as much out of the pickup area as possible.

The old saying goes: if it hurts, then you are doing it wrong.

Mixing is indeed a balance of all instruments, as well as the arrangement of them. It’s a craft that requires a lot of time and practice to start, in order to get a decent sounding mix.

It doesn’t really matter if you are using the plug-ins within SD3 or in Logic, as long as what you are using works in the overall context of the song. Some songs I mix use SD3’s plug-ins, and some use various third-party plug-ins, while others use a combination of both. It’s the song that matters.

I would first check to see if it comes up on a different machine. It sounds more like a pooched controller, otherwise you would be asked if you would like to format the drive if it didn’t recognize it.

The mixer and routings are saved along with the kit settings in the user preset. In your case, you simply need to load the user preset to get the kit and mixer settings.

How are the mic’s positioned? It’s possible that they are positioned in such a way that the bleed they’re getting is overwhelming the tracker. You may have to reposition your miss and probably apply a gate to the recorded tracks in order to the tracker to trigger more effectively.

Yes, it is possible. You don’t need to record MIDI into Pro-Tools. Just in SD3. Aside from being saved by Pro-Tools, you can also save your MIDI in an SD3 Project file.

No argument that it could have its uses (I don’t care for any coolness factor). I’m just saying that this kind of emulation is available for those who want to shape their drum sounds now. Aside from these, I’ve also used the envelopes for “tea towel” type emulations.
