Double Bassdrum Sound (in order to have alternating Kick sounds A and B) + kick engine toggle (switch between single Kick sound A and alternating Kick sounds A/B while playing) included: LINK 🙂
Just use a DAW and you can have EZDrummer2 very powerful with e-drums 🙂 :
(especially note remapping and dynamic setting for each of the articulations)
SoftwareDrumming-DAW-Benefit: LINK
If you want to have both (fast stepping without ringing + pedal splashes:) On a Roland module you could use my ‘Fast Stepping + Transition Artifact’ FIX (LINK + video): it will suppress ringing on fast stepping and also maintain the option to be able to play hihat splashes 🙂
Is there any way to programmatically achieve the muting aftertouch for the hi-hat
Sure. i can build you an engine the same way like with the ride: (LINK). 🙂
BTW, VH-14D – L-R + bell (6 zones): LINK
Bumping this for help with EZD2. Cranking the sensitivity is not an option as it makes the kit unplayable.
-> separated dynamic setting for each of the EZDr2 articulations included: FIX link
( – separated dynamics : set single kit pieces/articulations to custom velocity curves! (this is a great benefit as it is not possible in EZDr2 by default). When using the FIX software settings for this, you won’t need to adjust module settings in order to change dynamic translation. Also, the vel curves provided with the FIX will be your custom curve: much more detailed (and can be completely different) than the available module vel curves. ) 🙂
Just got EZ Drummer for my Alesis Command. It’s great except for one issue: when playing the closed hi hat, the volume is significantly lower than the rest of the kit. The partial and open hi hat have the proper volume. Has anyone run into this issue? Much thanks!
EZ Drummer 2 – Hihat Engine FIX
One feature of the EZDr2 hihat fix is the
Articulation level fix: I’ve increased the audio level of the following stages/articulations :
“TIGHT Bow” + “Closed Bow” and “OPEN 3” + “OPEN 4 + of course: “CLOSED Pedal”
( I want the TIGHT and CLOSED Bow + the “Chick” articulations not to sound weak and I want the wide open sounds to be more explosive.
In other words: these articulations shall cut through the mix a little more. Altering single stage/articulation audio level is NOT possible in EZ Drummer 2 by default regarding the Variable CC Hihat! This is also a strong benefit of my EzDrummer hihat FIX !)
…BTW, you can also have a boost on “Tight Edge” and/or “Closed Edge” 🙂
Thanks MintberryCrunch. I imagine that I’ll probably need that kind of help. Not sure if I can handle it myself 🙈. How do you go about online support session, how those that work?
Working with remote desktop. Just shoot me a message on the FB forum group. 🙂
I can look into your issue and fix it in an online support session if you struggle with it 🙂
I own now a Yamaha DTX-Pro and I think I have discovered something: if the module sends a specific splash note then turning off the splash sensitivity setting and using the Edrum optimized option in SD3 gives you completely clean chicks and splashes, the Yamaha DTX-Pro sends note 23 for splashes, the roland modules, 2box, atv, ef note don’t send a splash note but it is based on time after a pedal closed note 44. I think the mimic pro sends a separate splash note as well. That’s why the splashes on many VST’s don’t play well with all roland modules, I tried on SSD5, forget it, no splashes at all. So the only modules I know will play well with SD3 hihat are right now the Yamaha DTX-Pro (X) and the Mimic Pro.
Can’t agree on that because a fixed velocity Pedal Splash note (triggering always the same fixed velocity Splashes samples) have nothing in common with the dynamically and musically reacting SD3 Hihat Splash engine. The SD3 engine is really absolutely superior and made for high demands on realism. 😉
Thanks MintberryCrunch, could you explain a bit more please?
Jord’s answers are the explanation 🙂

Thanked by: beebeeveevee and Bear-Faced CowI would use a DAW and trigger the switching of kits via a dedicated midi note. Big advantage: the switch trigger note can additionally be assigned to trigger sound (i.e. a kick drum – crash cymbal layer) 🙂
If the lowest possible “Splash Sensivity” setting is still not enough to fix it (which will definitely be the case when opening fast after a Pedal Chick): the only chance to get rid of “Open Pedal” activity and at the same time maintain the option to play Hihat Splashes is switching it on and off after your needs while playing. I provide a special fix (LINK). The SD3 “E-Drum Optimized” transmuting settings have nothing to do with it BUT you will need my transition fix (which comes along with my OpenPedal (fast stepping) fix) because the SD3 “E-Drum Optimized” transmuting settings won’t work with my OpenPedal (fast stepping) fix 🙂
The fact that you get a “Closed Edge” note as crosstalk when playing Pedal “Chicks” is a little bit weird -> I would expect Bow notes but maybe this is also a little bit different with new digital VH-14D hihat. Go to module settings and try to set “Noise Cancel” to value 2 or 3 and see if the Closed Edge note vanishes. (I can look into this issue in an online session if you can’t get it right).
Regarding cross-fading, we have discussed this in the past but playing two samples simultaneously could potentially create extra problems such as phase and comb-filtering issues. It is also a compromise in its own way as you are doubling the sound of physical interaction of the two cymbals at the mid-point. That’s not to say it isn’t an area worthy of further exploration.
Though the SD hihat engine is already quite superior I would say it’s definitely worthy of further exploration. If you want a perfect imitation of the behaviour of a real hihat there cannot be a switching of open-closed stages. Check out how it works in AL sampler -> it’s super smooth and I could not notice any artifacts. I think it’s not a problem with “crashy” cymbal/open hihat sounds 🙂
