IMHO instead of doing some contemporary fixes just focus on making it a real 64 bit software.

Rogue said the 64-bit version for Mac would be hitting by the end of the month, so the ‘memory server’ route should be unnecessary.

Not really if you are on Pro Tools or many other Mac based DAW’s

Could be quite some time before the big DAW’s are 64 bit

I don’t use a mac – but is there anything like jbridge (http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/)  for the mac?
    This is what you’d need.

… funny you should say that, a few months ago we were accused (not by you) to ‘hold’ the 64-bit world from our little corner of the earth 😉

But as has been said, there won’t be temporary measures to fill the gap for some DAW, we just don’t have the resources for short term solutions (and if not short term then you should let your DAW maker know this is important to you that they embrace 64-bit within a reasonable time frame).

err no… things like jbridge do the opposite, they bring 32-bit plugins into a 64-bit host 😉

    It does a few things.

    – you can run 32 bit plugs on 64 bit hosts
    but it also lets you

    – run 32 or 64 bit plugs on 32 bit hosts with their own 2GB (or 3GB with the /3GB switch) of RAM

That’s what I thought might help the OP (of course he’d need a mac version that does this sort of thing).

If I’ve still got it wrong, I’ll respectfully back out of the conversation
    (just trying to help)

It’s an interesting factoid about jbridge, I wasn’t aware of that (unrepentantly so mind you), but all 32-bit applications on Mac can address 4GB already under 10.4 or above (as in have the possibility to), so this is pretty standard on Mac at this point… I believe there was in fact some outcry in the early days due to Core Audio (or was it Logic specifically?) not allowing this extended memory space to be used by Audio Units, hence why some companies looked at under the hood memory servers solutions.

With ProTools 9 being 10.6 only, this is a sign of things to come and a first step in the right direction. As for Cubase, the product presentation (of the latest version) make it clear this is most definitely in the works already. MOTU and Ableton have been very forthcoming in the past with moving fast on key aspects such as this (several MOTU hardware are already shipping with 64-bit drivers, which again is a sign).

… I have to state that I am purposely not on hand with any insider info however and drawing any hasty conclusion in respect to your DAW in the next few months (if not already 64-bit) would be wishful thinking. In truth I am far from an expert on this subject so some info herein may be borderline incorrect, for which I make no apology.

Anyway, my point being, starting work on a memory server at this stage – and I make no secret that none is in the work, or as been attempted – would be a big waste of resources that would make our product development (i.e improved and matured) slow down significantly. I think we owe our user base more than this 😉

I just started using cubase 64 with S2.2.2 64 and it runs ridiculously awesome running 2 fully loaded superiors.. not much help in this thread but I was inspired.

I also bought jBridge and that’s a very useful tool for running my behind the times 32bit plugs, steingberg should be embarrassed about their vstbridge.
