weakest link? Superior Drummer 2.0 – Macbook – Apogee Duet – M Audio Midisport UNO?

Hey there,

I need some help from you guys!

I finally invested in Superior Drummer 2.0 and I´m having some issues concerning the latency. I just can´t enjoy playing on my Roland TD-12 with the software, especialy when playing to music in the background.

Looking at the configuration of all the tools I´m using I´m trying to find the weakest link. The config is as followed:

The Roland DT-12 module is connected to a standard macbook (2,4GHZ : 2 GB RAM) via a M Audio Midi to USB Adaptor. My guess is that the USB-to-Midi Adaptor slows everything down.
I´m using an Apogee Duet Firewire-Soundmodule, which should not be the problem, except for the fact that you can´t connect the TD-12 Module directly to the device.

So, what do you think is the problem? My guess is that it´s either the RAM of my macbook or the combination of the Duet with the USB-to Midi Adaptor.

Any ideas?

you do not say what host or operating system you are using. Latency is unlikely on the way in but you will minimize latency with the MIDI signal only if you turn off the local processing on the module (Local OFF), especially with a TD-12/TD-20.

If you are using Toontrack solo, check what buffer setting you have set (not just that set in the Maestro control panel) and of course ensure you have the latest drivers for both your Apogee and Uno.

Ok, thank you very much for your help.

I turned off the local processing on my TD 12 module (at least i think i did). I turned off “local control” in the Midi Global section. is that correct?

Then i set the buffer size to 64MB and updated all the drivers.

I´m using a MAC OS X 10.5.5. operating system and Logic Pro 8 as a host.

I have experienced a slight improvement now, but it´s still far away from perfect.

Anything else i can do?
