    *Do update EZdrummer.

” it will not follow the host inside the ez drummer or ez bass program. A pop up says “Can not follow host other MIDI detected”.So it is trying to run two MIDI files simultaneously .”

This has never happened to me. Might want to take it up with a Reaper group, if it’s really what you want to do. But also, if you drag the midi out of EZdrummer (for example), you don’t want to Follow Host anymore. You don’t want two things happening at once in anyway.

“The reason to have the track in reaper and also in the ez bass/drum program is to be able to add and effects on the tracks in my DAW as needed.”

You don’t need to export midi or audio to add your own effects in reaper. Just place an effect in the next Insert slot in Reaper after EZdrummer.

If you want an audio track(s) of your EZdrummer work, and the other TT programs, open them up and look to the Track Menu > Export Audio. It’s not inferior from a sample/bit rate point of view.

My take on the subject here. You can also learn to route your Toontrack products as well for more control.

You can export audio from EZD. Track – > Bounce. It’s better, though, to export your Reaper MIDI notes as MIDI and import them to EZD and EZB. Audio exports mean you’ve got to keep updating them.

Just to add to Shootie and Mick’s valuable input, if you had both the EZDrummer track and your MIDI in Reaper playing, you would most likely end up with a “flammy” type output that would be hard, if not impossible, to get rid of, therefore Toontrack has put a safeguard in their code to detect when 2 sources of MIDI are being executed in the same plug-in simultaneously.  As Shootie pointed out, you can route EZDrummer channels to separate outputs if you want to process them individiually. (be aware that is could change the overall sound of the preset/kit as you may be bypassing whatever processing is happening on the “2 Bus” within EZDrummer). There’s lots of discussion on the board about that.

I am not sure having your MIDI in 2 places creates more flexibilty for you, but everyone has their workflow preferences.

If you really need to hear both tracks played simultaneously, then as Shootie and Mick pointed out, bounce to audio, but you’ll probably still end up with a “flammy” kind of sound.
