“When I drag and drop a midigroove from EZDrummer 3 to an instrument track or midi track in pro tools studio I cant edit the notes for some reason.”
Is it that you can visibly edit the midi in PT but can’t hear your changes? Did you mute the midi in EZDrummer 3 after dragging it to PT?

No.. Nothing like that.. It is just the midigroove dragged from EZ drummer that cant be edited. The notes are locked ? I can even play a groove on the same track with my midikeyboard and then edit the notes from the recording..Its only the midifile from EZD3 thats ”locked”…. I have worked in Pro tools for 30 years and this is the first time I have experienced this..haha.

When I drag and drop a midigroove from EZDrummer 3 to an instrument track or midi track in pro tools studio, I cant edit the notes for some reason. When playin a groove manually from my keyboard all work as normal and the midi can be edited in the midi editor… The midi notes from EZD3 midifile is however locked and cant be moved… Anyone knows why or how to solve this ??

    Kind regards David

    Hi there,

Just tried dragging from EZD3 browser and EZD3 track to at Protools track and opened up in (Protools) MIDI editor and have been move MIDI around.

Does is matter what edit mode you are in (Grid, Slip…. etc)….

    Thanks!

No.. Grid or slip has nothing to do with it..  I can record manually on the same instrument track and be able to move notes in the editor so it has to be linked to the spesific midigroove coming from EZD3. I have experienced that a few random grooves can be edited ?? Could you try the first groove on EZD3 midi library and see if that is locked ?

It would be helpful if Toontrack support could chime in… Is there anyway I can reach them ?

Are you dragging from the EZD3 groove browser as opposed from the EZD3 track? Does it make a difference if you dragged the groove to the EZD3 track first and then into PT (only as a test, you shouldn’t have to work that way)

I will be at my rig in about an hour or so (6am right now PDT) I left it downloading the latest update to PT before heading out last night. Perhaps that makes a difference one way or another.

John, Scott and Olof frequent the forums and will probably chime in if we can’t solve the issue.

You could contact support as well.

    Hey mate,

    Tried dragging from EZDdrummer 3 > Pop/Rock/Singer-Songwriter > Straight 4/4 > Diva Ballad 57 BPM > Intro > Intro 1

I can manipulate MIDI as expected.

Would you be able to zip a PT session with just the MIDI and EZD3 track that this is happening on and post it here?

Hmmm.. This is very strange.. Could this be a license issue ? Maybe I need to re-innstall.. I tried trashing PT prefs and started over on a clean session. Same result.. I will try to post a video asap..

Just a random thought (feel free to have a laugh)…. have you stretched the MIDI editor window display so the notes are bigger…. I remember WAY back when someome on DUC couldn’t move MIDI notes as they were too small…

Haha.. Yeah.. I remember that as well .. Nothing like that but thanks anyway.. To recap.. I can manually record drums from my keys right after the midifile from EZD3 on the SAME track with the exact same setting and I can edit the one recorded and not the one from EZD3.. It seems to me the problem lies within EZD3 as any other midi-recording in pro tools work fine..

    Hi David,

can I please ask you to confirm a specific Groove you are dragging to PT and if you would be so kind to ZIP archive a Session (without Audio Files) where this is present and attach to a post here?

Also, which exact version of Pro Tools are you running?

    BR,
    John

OK, I just (without exactly knowing how) managed to reproduce but it wasn’t only with EZdrummer 3 but also Stylus RMX, so it suggests something has happened with the latest Pro Tools update. Are you on the latest 2022.7 version? Have you seen any other users experiencing similar things on e.g. the DUC?

    BR,
    John
