I finally have the hats responding pretty well except for one thing. Every time I play quarter notes on the hats with my foot, there is an unwanted sound. Every time I let off of the pedal there is an “opening resonant sound” of the hats that is being triggered. It is NOT a foot splash, rather it is more of the resonant/ringing sounds that occur when you let off the pedal with your foot. Here is the thing, I keep time with my hat foot (either playing 1/4 or 1/8 notes) all the time on my real kit, and I record other drummers all the time on real kits, and this noise is barely noticeable even on the close mic on the hat, and it is NEVER a problem in the overall drum mix. In S2 the noise is obnoxiously loud. It is a big nuisance in the overall mix; it is unusable.
My question is, what key note value is causing this noise to trigger? What key note do I need to remove to be able to play “chick” “chick” “chick” “chick,” instead of “chick-ring” “chick-ring” “chick-ring” “chick-ring.” (Do Not confuse this with “footsplash” “footsplash” “footsplash” – that is not what is happening here.) What is happening here is the noise of hats resonating after you have let off of the pedal – what I am calling “ring” in the example.
The ONLY partial success I had was remove CC4. Then I could play “chick” “chick” “chick” with my foot and no resonant tones were triggered when I let off of the pedal. HOWEVER, when CC4 is removed, then I am totally unable to have closed hat sounds trigger when I try to play with the hats closed. These parameters should be independent of each other, rather than either/or. Why are the tweakable parameters not laid out more logistically practical and usable.
Thank you to whoever can resolve this!
Nate
I’m not sure I understand correctly but doesn’t lowering the foot splash sensitivity in your TD-20 solve this?
I can not say I suffer from what you describe and I’m running a Hart Pro kit with a TD-12.
