    Hi,

which Reaper version are you using?
If you are using the 64-bit version of Reaper, are you sure you are loading the 64-bit version of EZdrummer 2 and not bridging the 32-bit?
What does your Audio page look like in Reaper Preferences? Can you post a screen shot?

    Hi,

I use Reaper too and I have noticed if my project is in pause mode this will happen…Also sometimes I just have to re open the audio settings (in the top right corner, just click and say ok) and if all else fails reopen project…

    Hope that helps…

    cheers, jeff

First of all I must express how impressed I am that I received such quick responses. I haven’t needed to use support because I have found that the Toontrack products I’ve purchased have always worked as intended.

JOHN: I have Reaper x64 V5.25, I have EZ Drummer x64 V2.1.4 Build 13108 installed. Here is a screenshot of my Audio Preference Preference-Audio.jpg

I have noticed also that when I click on the Total FX mixer, part of the RME software, that EZ Drummer always quits. But it also happens at other times.

JEFF: Are you referring to the standalone version? I haven’t been able to find any place on the plugin version to access the audio interface settings.

Thanks again to you both for the help.

    Hey Rick,

Hope this gets resolved for you…

No I was referring to EZD in reaper…I’m sending you a pick of one of the solutions I use, I just click this and the DEVICE PREFERENCES open and I usually just press OK (at the bottom) and things start to work again….Also What I meant to say was if you PAUSE the PLAY button in reaper this will also give you that error message. I have one of my mouse settings to pause so I can quickly to work on my NEW “fix” (-‘

Thanks Jeff, I was looking in the right hand upper corner of the EZD Gui. I’ll give it a try the next time I have the problem. Right now it seems to be working fine.

    Hi Rick,

that screen shot was from the Reaper MIDI hardware page. I’m not in front of Reaper right now but IIRC, there are some Audio hardware/Device settings that suspends the Audio engine under certain circumstances. May be related to Jeff’s workaround.

    Hi John,
I don’t quite follow your message. I’m not sure what IIRC is. Is there a different screenshot you’re requesting. Thanks

    Sorry,

all these acronyms 😉 IIRC – If I Recall Correctly.

I attach a screen shot of my Audio Settings on my MacBook Pro.
There are some different check boxes concerning closing the audio device, maybe you should try removing the check marks if they are ticked?

    Hi John,
I’ve been crazy busy with a client but I finally had some time to check all my preferences and they were the same as yours and I unchecked some and it didn’t make any difference. I spent some time trying to zero in on the problem and I found out that it only occurs when I have the plugin displayed and am running a sample. When I try to raise or lower the volume in with the RME Total FX mixer software EzDrummer stops and the error message appears. If I change focus from the plug-in to the DAW then it will work again. Crazy!

Hello. I have a very similar problem. I just purchased EZ Drummer 2 and am trying to use it in Reaper. I have all the recent updates. I use an Avid Eleven rack for an interface and have my speakers running from the rack. I can play, monitor, and record guitar no problem. But when I load up ez drummer it says that same error message  “Audio engine inactive check your audio device.” Really appreciate any help. My friend showed it too me and i liked it a lot and was very excited to use it.

    Hi

Solved maybe it can be useful

This is more or less solved except for a problem of latency-sound-image synchronization with the drums I had before the last update

but, what must be done to avoid garageband-midi pad controller lockups

is to revert – to come back to last  2.1.8 version  by a line code given by Toontrack

And don’t take the latest version with Mac OS Big Sur (for me, it blocked, garage band crashed and froze (wheel spinning endlessly))
